Fan Expo Portland Recap! Jeremy Checks Out The Annual Con Staple! Missing Elvira, Doh! But Seeing Joseph Quinn! And More!
Even the snow and ice couldn’t keep us away from the 2024 Fan Expo, a staple comic con that happens every year in Portland.
I love a good comic con, and Fan Expo never disappoints. From a wide range of celebrities, interactive exhibits, and some of the best vendors I have seen at a show, this convention is a must if you are in Portland. Unfortunately, the day the convention started, so did a blanket of snow and ice which kept away lots of attendees, and sadly, some celebrities. In spite of this, everyone was in good spirits and as they say, “the show must go on”.
Being a huge autograph collector, I tend to gravitate to the celebs in attendance. This year I was most looking forward to meeting Cassandra Peterson who’s portrayal of Elvira is a great reminder that behind every gay is a diva with long hair, great style, and a sassy mouth. I have a photo I really wanted to get signed, but Cassandra left the event before we got there.
I did get a chance to see Holly Marie Combs, high fived Danny Trejo who was very friendly, and I got some autograph certifications from JSA who had a vendor on site.
Joseph Quinn, who became famous for playing, “Eddie” in last seasons “Stranger Things” was there meeting fans.
Based on the enormous number of people dressed as his character, he was a top draw for the event.
There were also a ton of voice actors signing autographs which I thought was a nice touch.
After the celebs, we moved to the large selection of artist tables, and larger selection of pop culture, and one of a kind sale items. A special thank you to the awesome https://www.grreatentertainment.com/ for the incredible displays they produce for autograph photos (check out my photos below).
Speaking of autographs..as we made our way to another table selling comics, baseball cards, and signed photos, I couldn’t help but notice their almost embarrassing forged signatures of Carrie Fisher, Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, and so many others. It was no wonder they had a sign that read, “40% off all autographs today only”.
Although the crowds may have been a bit smaller, the energy was high, the costumes worn by attendees were cool, and the staff at Fan Expo were helpful. We go every year, and we enjoy this convention tremendously. If you happen to be in Portland next year during Fan Expo- I encourage you to get a ticket and join in the fun. Just hope there is no snow, no ice, and a longer appearance by Elvira!
