The owners of Bricks & Ivy Sports, Emily and Bob Brown, were inspired to open their store in 2017 because they always had a passion for sports cards and memorabilia and they wanted to create a unique place for collectors to come to share in their love for the hobby. “Bob and I have been big sports fans our whole lives and have always enjoyed the sports collecting hobby. One day we just sort of realized that there wasn’t a store like this anywhere near where we lived and thought it was time that someone opened a store. It wasn’t long after that conversation that we opened Bricks & Ivy Sports. This hobby has been our passion for many years and now we get to share in it with collectors all over the central part of Illinois. It’s been very rewarding interacting with collectors and bringing unique events such as this to Hoopeston for fans, customers and neighbors to enjoy,” Emily Brown said. Jose Canseco, who held a career that spanned 17 MLB seasons, retired as one of the most prolific home run hitters in MLB history. As one half of the ‘Bash Brothers’ Jose was known for hitting moon shot home runs that made TV highlight reels on a nightly basis. Jose was named Rookie of the Year (1986), Most Valuable Player (1988), won two World Series Championships and was a six time All-Star. When asked about going to Hoopeston to face off against a few of his fans in a Home Run Derby Contest Jose said, “I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I will face anyone, at any time in a Home Run Derby and they won’t beat me. I cannot wait to show Central Illinois how many home runs I can hit over 500 feet long. I look forward to proving this once again in Hoopeston. If you’re up to the challenge I expect to see you on May 11.” On May 11, starting at 10:30 a.m. everyone is welcome to attend this free Home Run Derby event to take place at McFerren Park in Hoopeston. Jose will compete against three people picked by the owners of Bricks and Ivy Sports to compete in a Home Run Derby Contest. For more information on how you can be one of the three contestants to face off against Jose Canseco please contact Bricks & Ivy Sports at 217-283-2250.
