Go-Go’s Ladies Gone Wild Tour Review August 17 2011 Greek Theatre Los Angeles! Belinda Carlisle! Gina Schock! Kathy Valentine! Jane Wiedlin! Charlotte Caffey!
I discovered something last night… I do indeed have the beat… It’s true, I just do. Last night the all female first ladies of punk pop, The Go-Go’s performed at the Greek Theatre. All five members of the band Gina Schock, Kathy Valentine, Belinda Carlisle, Charlotte Caffey, and Jane Wiedlin rocked the house…
Opening with their huge chart topping hit “Vacation” it was clear that the crowd at the Greek Theatre was there to have fun… And it was clear that the band was there to rock. This tour called the “Ladies Gone Wild Tour” is in celebration of the 30th anniversary of Beauty and the Beat, the Go-Go’s first full length LP.
It’s always tough to see bands that have been around for well three decades now, you always wonder if they still have their sound, if the singer has their voice, etc… I am happy to report that the Go-Go’s sounded just as fresh last night as they did back when they first started out. (Which I was able to look at thanks to Youtube… I’m not that old people!)
Playing a healthy selection of songs from Beauty and the Beat the Go-Go’s also took some time to sprinkle in Belinda Carlisle’s hit single Mad About You, and Jane Wiedlin’s duet with The Sparks, Cool Places… But it was some of the lesser singles such as This Town and Automatic that really made the crowd get into the set.
However, hearing Our Lips Are Sealed, We Got The Beat, and Head Over Heels was thrilling as well…
The Go-Go’s were also honored with the Greek Theatre’s highest honor a place on the rock walk. The ceremony was help earlier in the day. It’s honor’s all around as the Go-Go’s just recently got their star on the walk of fame, which you can read about here.
After the show, a good friend of mine was able to score a couple backstage passes for us to hang with the VIP’s. It was there I was able to meet Kathy Valentine…
Charlotte Caffey…
And Jane Wiedlin….
Sadly Belinda Carlisle did not make an appearance, but I will get to meet her one day!
