Hidden Figures Q and A! Meeting Taraji P. Henson! Octavia Spencer! Janelle Monae! Jim Parsons! Glen Powell! And More!
One of my favorite films this Awards Season is Hidden Figures. It was such a powerful film and it was a treat to attend a q and a with the cast.
Participating in the q and a were:
TARAJI P. HENSON
OCTAVIA SPENCER
JANELLE MONÁE
JIM PARSONS
GLEN POWELL
KIMBERLY QUINN
&
DIRECTOR THEODORE MELFI
Before the film, I ran into Glen Powell, who I really like from Scream Queens. We actually talked for quite a while about his character dying in season 2 and the new direction of the series. It was pretty cool to hand with him for a second.
After we saw the film the cast took at the stage.
It was pretty remarkable to see everyone up there!
“I googled all these women, I said, ‘I don’t believe this happened.’ I knew it did, because it’s a true story, but I didn’t believe it.” Said Jim Parsons about the film.
“As an African American women, I had no clue. As I read this beautiful script, I just said, ‘Wow.’ It’s about time we actually see a different side of a woman of color on screen.” Said Janelle Monae. “It became a personal responsibility to me to make sure that no young girl, no matter what color they are go through life, not knowing Mary Jackson, Dorothy Vine and Katherine Johnson. At NASA these women are a huge inspiration and our new superheroes.”
“I did a movie that was a historical fiction a few years ago.” Said Octavia Spencer, “I thought this was historical fiction and I said when you firm this up, before you go to Viola, Oprah and all these other people, come back to me!”
Getting the film made, was difficult as well as being in a real life true story.
“It’s very scary, it’s different. Play an icon and everyone knows how they walk and talk. No one knew Catherine and I tried to get as much of her essence as I could.” Said Taraji P. Henson, “The pressure is still there because this is this women’s legacy. The weight for me came in telling her legacy. I wanted to make her happy. It’s about these brace women. I was scared, if it’s not scary I don’t do it.”
“It all materialized into something greater to us than we ever thought.” Octavia Spencer interjected, “These women are unsung heroes and someone needs to sing their song.”
It was a great afternoon and after the three women stayed and I was lucky enough to get my Hidden Figures poster signed by Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer and Janelle Monae.
I also got a quick selfie with Octavia and she was nice enough to sign my The Help mini poster as well.
Jim Parsons left pretty quick but I did grab a photo with Kimberly Quinn which was fun! She was really good in the film.
The car used in the film was outside and I grabbed a photo with it as well after.
I highly recommend checking out Hidden Figures, I loved the film and this was a great afternoon.
