MTF Holiday Gift Guide! Find The Perfect Present For The Fanboy In Your Life!
It’s like I woke up and suddenly Christmas was right around the corner. I’ve been more than a little overwhelmed at the prospect believe me!
When I started thinking of Christmas, I started thinking of all the things and people I have to buy for. Whew. Talk about overwhelming.
So, I thought of some great gift buying ideas for the fanboy in all of our lives and thought I would share that with everyone!
FOR THE CLASSIC TELEVISION LOVER IN YOUR LIFE
There really is only one thing I can recommend and that’s The Wonder Years: The Complete Series on DVD. All 115 episodes have finally been released in a complete series set, and the best thing is that 99% of the original music has been cleared.
Seriously, it’s close to a miracle!
I know we’ve talked about it before, but this set is truly amazing.
FOR THE CLASSIC COMEDY LOVER IN YOUR LIFE
One of the best sets out there is Mama’s Family: The Complete Series. You may have seen our earlier review, but this Vicki Lawrence series has always been a favorite of mine and having all the episodes in one place and looking this good is great.
Mama’s Family, which ran on NBC for two seasons before being one of the first series to be sold into first run syndication. The show retained most of its cast and continued to run for three more seasons.
The really awesome thing is that this set is available in a signed edition where Vicki Lawrence has autographed a select number of the sets!
Rock on!
FOR THE FUTURE HOLLYWOOD PLAYER IN YOUR LIFE
All eight seasons are included in this set so you can catch up on the drugs, rejection, and all the Hollywood lifestyle that you can handle. Plus, if you get the blu-ray set, it’s perfect because the earlier seasons were never available in high definition and they are included here.
FOR THE “GREEN THUMB” IN YOUR LIFE
The set includes all eight seasons of the dark comedy as well as a disc of bonus material including interviews with the cast and an awesome round table as well. The cast reunited for the roundtable and there are also interviews with the supporting actors and recurring guest stars.
Mary Louise Parker starred as Nancy Botwin, the Pot-Momma. It started off as a way to support her family when her husband died and then turned into all out madhouse with Mexican gangsters, a lethal croquet mallet, tunnels, and more.
FOR THE VETERAN IN YOUR LIFE
Told through the eyes of the medical personal and quirky characters stationed in China Beach, this series is a must see. For so long it was the top requested unreleased television series and now finally it’s released on DVD. The music rights issue was again one of the main things keeping this show from being released on DVD. It used a lot of pop songs from the 1960’s and when the show aired there was no way to for-see releasing television series in this fashion.
The bonus features are also incredible including interviews, a reunion, etc… Highly worth checking out.
FOR THE FANBOY IN YOUR LIFE THAT REMEMBERS RADIO
The writing was some of the best in all of television, so much so in fact that series star Howard Hessman left a different show he was on to be on the reunion episodes. It was THAT kind of a show. Shout Factory has done a great job with the show doing minimal edits and having a great set of bonus features including a Paley Center reunion attended by yours truly.
FOR THE CLASSIC ROCKER IN YOUR LIFE
It’s a great reminder of what one musical performance can do for an artist. This complete series set contains all the episodes from the series and the concert performances as well. There is also over two discs of bonus material that totals almost five hours. There are new interviews with some of the artists on the series and individual featurettes.
It’s all pretty incredible and anyone who has seen the show will treasure this set!
FOR THE SCI-FI FAN IN YOUR LIFE
Amazon released a fun gift set that includes the blu-ray edition of the film and a replica of Magneto’s helmet. The Helmet measures about 7” tall and I’m told it looks awesome in person. I love these special edition of movies and films.
