How I Went Out To Meet Olivia Wilde And Ended Up In The Middle Of The Los Angeles Riots!

Sigh… What lengths we go to for fandom… Some lengths are not even on purpose… Last night I went out for Tron Legacy and Cowboys and Aliens star Ms. Olivia Wilde… Now, this should have been simple… Right? Nothing out of the ordinary… Just me, my Tron Poster and 30 other fans, just like a regular day at the office.

Well, apparently the fandom Gods decided… you know Mike, today is not going to be your day! upon arriving in Hollywood I noticed an unusual amount of traffic… But I’m like… Hey, its nothing, just a premiere, or something like that… Nope…

Unbeknownst to me, there was a riot. Yep, a riot. People went Wild for Olivia Wilde! Well, not exactly… So, I park my car, and start walking over. I had a couple Tron Legacy Posters, a Cowboys and Aliens lenticular slurpee cup, Erica’s Tron Legacy poster, you know the normal things to have when walking down Hollywood Blvd.

So, I’m crossing the street, and look over, and see Police Officer’s in riot gear… I’m like.. Huh… That’s new… But there wasn’t much really happening, so I just figure it’s a movie shoot, or a drill or something… after all there are hundreds of premiere’s going on… Although I usually know about all of them… hmmmm…. Maybe I should scratch that last part out right?

I cross the street and find CB And Scotty. They have been here since like 1:30 p.m. It’s now 7:15 p.m. I know, crazy right? I keep telling them they are smocking crack rock straight from the pipe but to each their own… So, there are about 30 people lined up behind the barricade and I ask them, I say guys what’s going on…

Suddenly, a group of teenagers come running down the ally, apparently, the officers are shooting pellet guns at them… WTF! Apparently some DJ named Cascade tweeted he was doing a free show and thousands of people showed up… Like… in mass…

All the streets were blocked off, so I couldn’t even get back to my car. I jumped behind the barricade with Scotty and CB and someone had the audacity to says, “Get to the back of the line.” I turned and said, “Dude, do you really think that Olivia Wilde is going to sign autographs in the middle of a riot! I mean come on!” I just wanted to get out of the way in case people started tearing through the alley way.

Well, long story short, I was stuck in Hollywood eating at the IHOP until past 10:00 p.m. IHOP is not what is used to be… Really… steer clear of the IHOP, or use it only in case of a riot. I did get home and never saw Olivia Wilde, but I did see the craziness and had a memorable evening…

Sigh…
