Throwback Thurs! Meeting Jamie Lee Curtis! Scream Queen & Halloween Star! Autographs And A Photo? Say Wha?
Now, Halloween is right around the corner and no one says Halloween quite like Jamie Lee Curtis. I mean hello, she only starred in one of the most seminal films of our generation! Now, she’s on the FOX series Scream Queens which is very appropriate. I have had some bad experiences with Jamie Lee Curtis and one really nice one. She is a unique character to say the least!
Check out this weeks Throwback Thurs below!
It’s All Hollow’s Eve! And what better way to celebrate than with a Halloween themed column! I know that’s what all of you were thinking. Halloween… Jamie Lee Curtis…
Today, I’m going to talk about Ms. Jamie Lee Curtis. Now, I think there’s a pretty unanimous consensus among collector’s that Jamie Lee isn’t the nicest person around. I’ve seen her turn people down one on one with no one around and be quite rude about it. I’ve seen her just ignore people, etc…
However, when I was just starting out… Oh so many moons ago, I had an encounter with Jamie Lee Curtis that was actually really nice. I didn’t think much of it really. Back when you first start out collecting autographs or meeting a celebrity here and there you honestly think, “Oh, everyone must be super nice.” Oh, my oh my was that wrong. LOL…
I headed down to a talk show where Jamie Lee Curtis was promoting her new children’s book at the time and yes this was before I had mini posters. I know… Pause for shock and disdain… Okay, I had mini posters I just didn’t have every mini poster. LOL…
I was waiting and the security asked me if I was waiting for Jamie Lee Curtis. I was the only one and security knew me at this point. You needed a pass to get where I was so generally speaking there would only be a few people, but sometimes there were as many as 40.
Today, there was only little old me. Security asked Jamie Lee Curtis is she would mind stopping and apparently she quizzed him for a minute or two as to who I was. Then she relented. She came over and I said, “Hello, and asked her to sign the DVD to Mike.” I had an orange paint pen and Jamie Lee Curtis said, “Are you sure this is going to write on here?” I was like, “Oh yeah!” even though really I had no idea if it would or not and I started to sweat a little. She was kind of scary and I was a tad intimidated.
Then she signed the DVD and even wrote Happy Halloween on it. I thought that was pretty damn cool! I was very excited! When I asked for the photo, she paused like she didn’t want to do it, but was like, “Okay fine.” She gave the peace sign after the photo was taken and took off.
It was quick but I’ll tell you it made my day! Especially the fact that she wrote Happy Halloween on the DVD… Every time I pull the DVD out, people are like, “no way!” #epic
Can we say awwwwwwww!!!!
I have to agree with you on this one Mike. Jamie is a weird one. The last time I remember she was nice was a few years back for Susan St James star ceremony. Nowadays the only way you’d get get to sign extra items is when you buy multipule copies of her kid’s books!
Whew! Similar story for me. Three encounters with her the same day! Each encounter more scary than the next. All successes at least.
I haven’t heard good things about Jamie the only way you will get her is at a random book signing and she will be as nice as pie but other than that forget it. She is a tough one nowadays….. I am not sure what scared her off but she isn’t very nice maybe it’s dealers who knows.
Signing things and talking to people is part of being a celebrity, it comes with the territory. But being approached 80% of the time you walk outside would drive anyone to the edge. She’s only human. I’ve stopped asking for autographs and pictures from celebrities. Their privacy and peace of mind is important; it’s weird how we so desperately need to get their attention; human nature I guess. As much as I would like to talk to them or get a picture, they really don’t owe me anything. Their work is the gift.
