Jekyll or Hyde! Suddenly Susan Claws And Fights Her Way Into The Wilfred Autograph Signing At SDCC But Meets A Grumpy Elijah Wood!
Suddenly Susan has had some awesome meet and greets that I for one am a tad jealous of. Sam Rockwell for one… Well, this is a Jekyll or Hyde column I was there for! It was at Comic Con 2012 and it was insane for everything! Every signing was a fight with swords, shields, and in many cases mace.
So, when you get the magic ticket you are just so happy… And this time the normally nice Elijah Wood, was just kind of grumpy. He was a tad nicer with me, but it was most definitely one of those days.
Also guys, this is the first post with the official Theo badges! We have Happy Theo and Angry Theo! Which one will Elijah get? Special thanks to my friend Josh who made them. They are awesome!
Check out this weeks Jekyll or Hyde below!

Sweet, adorable, bright eyed Elijah wood. I’ve heard only great things about that little hobbit. I finally had a chance to meet him at this year’s San Diego Comic Con. He was doing a free signing promoting his television show “Wilfred”. To set the scene, I had to first wait over an hour and a half in a raffle line in order to pull out a “winning” ticket. I then went around and around for over an hour, pulling a total of six losing tickets. So, my best shot now was to get to the signing super early in the hopes of them having a standby line. We talking a total of more than three hours invested for this meet and greet. Once it had started, it looked like I’d make it through for sure, so joy and celebration!
I got up to the counter and was greeted by producers, David Zuckerm and Randall Einhorn. They were very nice people who were happy to meet the fans. Next up was cast members Dorian Brown and Fiona Gubelmann. They were also nice as could be within the time allotted with fans. These signings move at the speed of light, so one must be prepared with what to say ahead of time. I geared up for star and series creator Jason Gann. He’s super nice. I tell him I love the show and have seen a few of the original Australian episodes. He’s delighted and so am I.
We were told beforehand no photos with the cast, but we could take photos of them. I had seen almost everyone before me ask for a photo of Jason and Elijah and both complied, squishing together and smiling for the cameras. Since Elijah was last on the singing line, if you wanted to get them both, you had to take the photo while in front of Jason.
And so I asked, politely for a photo of them. Jason smiled big for the camera, while Elijah did not look up. I thought perhaps he didn’t hear me, so I called his name and he looked up. I motioned with the camera and made the international gesture for can I take your picture. He turned away again. What the hell Frodo? So, I wound up with two great photos of Jason smiling and Elijah ignoring me.
By now I’m right in front of Mr. Wood (hehe wood), as he is signing a mini poster. He slides it along, and grabs another to sign, all without looking up. I took the one on the end and asked, “is this one mine?” Without a word, he shrugged his shoulders at me. Um, ok, wow, EW, thanks for the awesome meet and greet. What’s most confusing is that he smiled and posed for other folks and gave me the cold as an Orc’s heart shoulder. What gives? Do I look like an ex-girlfriend who broke his heart? Was he intimidated by my short stature, thinking I would steal a future hobbit role from him?
So, the verdict on this day, definitely Mr. Hyde!
Elijah Wood is given the Angry Theo Award!!!!
you are a dear heart suddenly Susan! perhaps he’s tired from the con? I felt like I was there with you! struggles and heartache and all! lovely!
It’s crazy with Comic Con. I actually got Elijah to look in my camera and say “Hi Gail” to my sister. But other autograph lines I got COMPLETELY ignored (Elementary Cast). I think they talk to like every 3rd or 4th person. We know how hard it is for some of these people to even take 3 minutes out of their day to sign for fans. Now imagine them having to doing it for and hour. I will make sure to kick him in the nuts next year for you!
Elijah was going to sign my Lord of the Rings DVD until the security guy stepped in and said no personal items. He just shrugged and said sorry. He did seem cool though….but not sure why on picture.
Thanks Wanda – you’re so sweet! Glad you enjoy reading my articles.
Perhaps EW was just worn out by then. That’s why we call this column, Jekyll or Hyde!
Thanks Billy – get him in his Hobbit nards!
