Jessica 6 See The Light Los Angeles The Echo Live Concert Review! Photo Gallery!
Our resident music man, Scotty, has always loved checking out bands on the verge of breaking out. And clearly he loves Jessica 6! They are fairly new, and a lot of you might not know who they are just yet, but hopefully you will soon. Led by singer Nomi Ruiz, Jessica 6 is what Scotty calls “Contortionist Jazz Exotica.”
I don’t think I’m hip enough to know what that means! lol… Still it sounds great!
Check out Scotty’s review and photo gallery after the jump!

Jessica 6 – See The Light
By: Scott
Jessica 6 is a trio from Brooklyn, New York. They classify their music as “Contortionist Jazz Exotica.” The trio, Nomi Ruiz, Morgan Wiley, and Andrew Raposo, met while playing with the group “Hercules and Love Affair.” I first discovered Jessica 6 in January of 2010 with their single “Fun Girl.” I saw the video on Youtube and was hooked. Over the course of 2010, I caught some leaks on different music blogs of remixes and other tracks from the band. I could not wait to hear more. I was hoping an album that I could purchase would be released. In July of 2010, during a trip to New York City, I was able to catch Jessica 6 in person at a small club. What a treat! They had a sound and presence that I had not heard from a live band in a long time. They sounded better in person than on the recordings. Nomi’s luscious vocals and stage presence were and are something to be heard and experienced in person.
In August of 2010, back in Los Angeles, Jessica 6 made three appearances. I caught two of them. The first was at Bardot in Hollywood. AMAZING! The band was on fire. Front woman Nomi, keyboardist Morgan, and bassist Andrew, proved once again that they were a music force. They commanded the crowd’s attention with their talents. The crowd wanted more and more from the group. Track highlight for the night was “Prisoner of Love.” Jessica 6 even commented the night’s show was epic on their Facebook.
I caught the group again during at appearance an appearance for Sunset Junction in the parking lot of the restaurant Malo. Nomi, Morgan, and Andrew gave the crowd another amazing set. At this point I wanted a full-length album to be able to hear the tracks anywhere I wanted. They informed the crowd that a full length album would be released in 2011.
Now in 2011, we were finally treated to Jessica 6’s first full-length album entitled “See the Light.” The album is full of fresh tracks that showcase their musical abilities and Nomi’s beautiful vocals. They are on a short tour for the album. I was excited to catch their Los Angeles appearance at the Echo. The crowd was larger this time. I could hear people excitedly speak about catching the band for the first time. My hopes are to hear the current single “White Horse” and my new favorite track since buying the album, “In the Heat.” They opened with “In the Heat,” and the crowd went wild. Everyone watching could not get enough of Nomi sexy moves and voice. She has the voice and the looks and moves to back it up. Andrew and Morgan kept the rhythms and beats pulsating. I was able to get the band to sign their first 7” – “Fun Girl” and the new album. They were all very kind and signed both. If you are looking for some fresh new beats, check out Jessica 6’s “See the Light.” You can order it online from Best Buy online, Amoeba online or in store, Amazon, and iTunes. Thank you Jessica 6!
