Devastated! Meeting Leonard Nimoy And Having The Rain Ruin Everything! RUIN! Fanboy Fail! Autographs! Sadness! And More Star Trek Goodness!
Devastated…. I’m devastated. And I’m not even being fanboy dramatic.
It was like the ran came and washed Mr. Spock away.
I had to write this up fast because I’m freaking out and the best way for me to stop freaking out is to share my pain.
Tonight Mr. Leonard Nimoy was out and about doing a super rare q and a for the 2009 Star Trek. Big Mike and I were also out and I brought my 1974 Mego Mr. Spock action figure still in the package.
Now, I wasn’t alive when these were released but this figure was bought for me by my father one christmas when I was a kid. He bought me the Mr. Spock figure and the Captain Kirk figure and I’ve kept them all this time… In remarkable condition I may add…
My father passed away a long time ago, in like 1999 I believe and these two figures were a great memory for me. Now, when I was back home, I had boxes and boxes to go through and low and behold I found my Star Trek figures. I made sure and took these home.
So, flash back to tonight. Leonard Nimoy was doing the q and a.
There were about 9 people waiting and it really wasn’t bad. It was a nice night, nothing that would ever allude to the disaster that was going to come.
We were waiting and waiting, passing the time talking about life and randomness…
Then Leonard Nimoy’s car pulls in.
He sits in the car for a bit and we honestly don’t have much hope he’s going to come over and sign. He’s “retired” and not out that much. Plus, he charges quite a bit when he is out at the conventions.
Leonard Nimoy finally gets out of his car and comes right on over to us.
He is so nice. He asked us why we weren’t inside. I told him we tried to get tickets and that it sold out weeks ago.
Then we asked Leonard Nimoy if he would mind signing and he came right on over. He signed one each.
And then…
It…
Happened…
Rain.
Rain… It’s frakkin’ Los Angeles… It’s doesn’t rain in Los Angeles? What the frakk? For the one minute that Leonard Nimoy signs for us it rains just enough for the water to sit on the package of my figure.
I looked at it… It’s ruined. RUINED. I don’t even think it can be saved.
I called Scotty on the way home and I told him he needed to talk me off the ledge.
Sigh…
This is a huge fanboy fail…. Sigh…
Guys, I needed to share my pain… Sigh…
Until next time kids…
Mother fucking rain…

that sucks, i came after he went in and waited for him to come out and sign and right before he came out it started pouring so security said he wouldnt sign and he went straight to his car
So sorry mike. Maybe after it dries out it will be ok
NOOOOOOO!!!!! Oh friend…I’m so sorry.
it may not be perfect but you did get him if there is a silver lining. but what are the odds like you say of it raining in socal….
The killer thing is that it wasn’t raining until he got there and started signing! Kills me!
Sadness. Better to have not gotten him at all right? Sorry Mikey!!
Who gave him the silver? Maybe if it were in blue or black it wouldn’t have smeared. How were the other graphs that the other people get? Were they all bad as well? Hard name to get so hopefuly you’ll have another shot at him. Rain was in the forcast Mike.
Looks like he signed with Gold, not silver.
Susan, It’s still a type of paint pen, which are prone to smearing until it dries throughly.
So heartbreaking. I got some drops on my figure and the autograph looks a little light, but it’s one I will always cherish. My post will be forthcoming. Lots to tell!–“Big Mike”
It’s actually a gold sharpie, not a paint pen. I have the same 3 pack – gold, silver and bronze metallic sharpies, not paint pens. I think Mike knows better than that.
Mike: If it makes you feel better I have paid ($30 a piece) for two autographs in the past that were accidentally smeared right after being signed. At least you have his autograph. Just look at the positive
My mistake. Your right Susan. BUT, as you can see the metallic sharpies smeared just the same. I just don’t understand why people continue to use anything silver, gold, purple, whatever. Just don’t use items that are dark. As far as I know I have never heard many problems just using the regular sharpie blue/black. Mike black would have came out fine. ESPECIALLY IN THE RAIN.
Khaaaaaaaaaannnnnn!
Without Michael Jackson’s help, it’s harder to get Mr. Nimoy!
