Mala Rodriguez July 7th At The Troubador In Los Angeles Live Concert Review and Photo Gallery!

Scotty our resident music man headed out to one of my favorite venue’s in all the world the Troubador in West Hollywood to check out Mala Rodriguez! Scotty is a new convert to the world of Mala and was so excited to see her live!

So many times, you hear a picture is worth a thousand words, and for once it was true for me. Last week I was searching the internet and the LA Weekly for new music artists and I came across a photo of a female singer that intrigued me so much I had to hear as much music from her as I could. This artist is Mala Rodriguez. Usually a picture of an artist doesn’t do that to me, but something about Mala’s picture sent me into a music search. I clicked through every clip I could find on Youtube and was hooked.

Mala is from Spain and is a rapper…yes, a Spanish rapper. I consider myself someone who is on top of music, but I have to honestly say I did not know Spain had its own Rap and Hip-Hop scene. Normally, I am not a fan of Rap music, but Mala has a unique sound all her own. In addition to the Hip-Hop beats I am accustomed to hearing in the states, Mala’s music has influences of rock and Flamenco, which gives it a flavor all its own. In doing my homework, I had come to learn that Mala was not a new artist, but had been successfully producing her music for over a decade. Where have I been?

I saw that Mala was going to be appearing at the Troubador in West Hollywood. When you see an artist at the Troubador, you will get to see an intimate and special show. I was pumped as I entered the Troubador. After a couple of opening acts, Mala took the stage just after 11p.m.

The crowd went wild as she strutted out in a black corset, fishnets, and stilettos. She has a strong stage presence as if to say, “I am a force to be reckoned with!” Mala was indeed that force. As she made way through her set, she had the crowd, both men and women, sing her lyrics back at her and yelling, “Mala es sexy!”

She gave one hundred percent, evening stopping a song to tell the guys in the sound booth to turn up the volume. Highlights of the show for me were “La Niña,” “Tengo Un Trato,” “ La Cocinera,” “Por La Noche,” and the song that got me hooked, “Nanai.”

The songs were performed at a level of intensity that surpassed the recorded versions. Do yourself a favor and take a listen to Mala. Gracias Mala para una noche con musica excelente!
