Throwback Thursday! Meeting Annie Lennox! The Eurythmics Singer Is A Class Act! Concerts! Picture Discs! And More!

It’s Thursday, and what a perfect day to start Throwback Thursday! It’s all the rage these days I hear!

For the first TT, see I already shortened it, I thought… Who do I pick? And then it hit me, quite literally as a stack of CD’s fell on me, oh sweet irony. This was a wonderful event. I had the good fortune of meeting the iconic and awesome Ms. Annie Lennox after a rare acoustic concert and q and a.

As a bonus, Annie Lennox sent out signed cd’s to everyone who bought a ticket. Can I love this woman more? Seriously?

Today, I was treated to a wonderful surprise. My grandmother bought me a ticket to a very special concert featuring the iconic Ms. Annie Lennox. This special event was done at the brand new Grammy Museum in downtown Los Angeles in front of a small audience of 200 people. My friend Annette, who is also a big fan came with me when my other friend Scott bailed at the last second. Anyway, I brought my “Sing” picture disc to try and get signed, but what I would really love is a picture. Either way, I’m planning on a great night with a living musical legend.

6:00 p.m. – Annette is here and we are heading out. There is a VIP reception at 6:30 p.m. and then the show starts at 8:00 p.m.

6:15 p.m. – It’s raining. This of course means, that traffic is at a standstill. There goes the reception. Grrr and I was looking forward to the free cheese plate that is a standard at these things. Mmmmm cheese….

6:33 p.m. – Okay, we sort of arrive downtown, but there isn’t a sign, and since the Grammy Museum opened in December 2008 neither Annette nor I have ever been there before. Great…

6:44 p.m. – There are two strangers walking by, and we’re going to ask them if they know where the museum is. They look like Annie Lennox concert goers.

6:46 p.m. – Well, we were right about one thing, they are going to the concert, but they don’t know where the museum is either. We are like the blind leading the blind.

7:03 p.m. – Ah, we found it! It’s in a very nondescript building with only a small sign on the front. I will say however, that the interior of the museum is very interesting and Annette and I are planning on coming back sometime in the future.

7:13 p.m. – I have located the cheese plate and even though it’s half gone I’m very content. Ah cheese, why do I love you so? There are also free drinks, which is very lovely as well. We debate about chugging a couple drinks, but that just seems… well… I like to watch my Annie Lennox sober.

7:33 p.m. – We are in line to take our seats now. There is going to be an interview, followed by a Q and A and a short acoustic performance.

8:01 p.m. – We are firmly in our seats, and I’m debating about peeing again. I really don’t want to have to pee during the show, and it’s kind of chilly. To pee or not to pee that is the question…

8:02 p.m. – I’m going to pee.

8:06 p.m. – I’m back. It was a lovely pee.

8:09 p.m. – They just showed the video for Little Bird off of the Diva album and now they are showing No More I Love You’s from Medusa. I love this video!

8:13 p.m. – The moderator just walked on stage. They are going to show a few clips from the “Sing” campaign. It is Annie’s charity that helps support AIDS research in Africa. It really is a wonderful organization, take a look at www.annielennoxsing.com for more information.

8:19 p.m. – Annie just came onstage! She looks great and has a very cool black hat on.

8:39 p.m. – There is just so much information it’s hard to take it all in. Annie is explaining the “Sing” campaign and her involvement in it. She is discussing why she picked this particular subject and some history of the disease.

8:44 p.m. – Annie is talking about meeting Dave Stewart and the formation of The Tourists and eventually Eurythmics. She is so engaging and witty, and funny. Sadly, there is a drunk couple two seats down who helped themselves to a little too much of free wine at the reception.

8:49 p.m. – The drunk couple are now starting to fight with the couple next to me, this really is the capper on my week. Drunk fighting at an Annie Lennox concert, sigh… What’s next? A rumble during a Sarah Mclachlan sing a long?

9:12 p.m. – The Q and A portion is now starting. The audience is actually asking some interesting questions. One man asked about her gender-bending during the 1980s and another person told her how he and his wife named their daughter Lennox.

9:19 p.m. – Oh, the drunk couple are yelling now. Security is coming… And the drunks are now quieting down. God bless drunk people at concerts, who else would we have to complain about afterwards?

9:28 p.m. – Okay, remember what I said about interesting questions? A man just asked about the cow from the Sweet Dreams video. Yes, the cow. He actually said, “He related to the cow, and the cow was quite beautiful.”

9:49 p.m. – Annie is now moving to the piano and is going to do some songs on the piano.

10:11 p.m. – What an amazing night. Annette and I are hovering outside of the concert hall for a few minutes hoping to get a picture and an autograph.

10:13 p.m. – Oh, we’re getting kicked out now.

10:15 p.m. – Annette and I are now on the street waiting for Annie to come out. It’s quite cold. I understand it’s chilly, but Annette is from Michigan and should at least be used to some kind of cold. I mean hello! I remember walking to class in college with her when it was 20 degrees below zero out, so she can’t pull that crap with me! I kid, I kid… We’re actually having a lot of fun.

10:18 p.m. – Well, it’s getting really cold now. Annette really wants to go home, so I am about to relent.

10:19 p.m. – Holy shit, a car going the wrong way on a one way street just got slammed into by a Dominoes delivery truck. We could have been crossing that street! This is such a strange night.

10:25 p.m. – Oh, there she is! Annie is coming out, and as usual security are being really overprotective. There are only four people out here for God sakes. One guy in front of me asks for an autograph as she gets in her car, and she is so sweet. She signs about three things for him, and hands back his pen.

I then ask her to sign my picture disc, and she says,”Of course.” She shows her friend or assistant next to her the picture disc and says, “Oh, this came out so beautifully.” And she personalizes it to Mike, and hands back the pen. She is so lovely!

10:27 p.m. – We’re walking past the accident now. It’s really bad, but I don’t think anyone is hurt thank God. It’s a very unusual night to say the least! We had the crazy drunk couple, a once in a lifetime concert event and then the car crash. Crazy times.
