Manic Monday! Random Mel Gibson Encounter! Pinky Meets The Braveheart Star! Selfie Goodness!

Hello, my lovelies. Pinky Lovejoy-Coogan here still on a high from meeting none other than Mel Gibson this weekend. Mel Gibson! I’m still completely shocked as I pretty much never thought I’d have the chance to meet him. I mean, I have a “bucket list” that I track with names of those I hope to meet one day and I don’t even think I put him on the list because I didn’t think it could ever come to pass. Braveheart will forever be in my all-time Top Five of movies, so meeting the man behind the film was just something I never even could have dreamed of.

Over the years, I’ve been lucky to meet some very famous people, but usually I have some heads up about who I’ll be seeing as there are lists of who will be attending different events. This helps so that I can mentally prepare myself beforehand that they’ll be in my vicinity soon. However, with Mel, we had absolutely no idea that he’d also be attending the Cavalia Odysseo opening event in Camarillo on Saturday,

so when he walked in, we both pretty much froze. And, granted, up until that time, we were surrounded by plenty of famous people – Matt LeBlanc, Joe Mantegna, Tiffani Amber-Thiessen, and Luis Guzman just to name a few. But in our VIP section, they had one table blocked off and reserved so we knew whoever was coming had to be someone really big. Sure enough, Mel Gibson walked in holding an adorable baby and went right to the reserved table. I was dying to ask him for a picture, but didn’t want to disturb him (especially with a baby). I wasn’t really sure how it would go – everyone else so far had been super friendly and cool about pictures, but this seemed different. Still, I knew if I didn’t at least ask (even if he said no), I’d totally regret it.

The show started seating people and Mel got up to use the facilities. This was our one chance! We went out to where he was and waited until he was on the way back. As he walked past, I told him how much I loved Braveheart and he started holding up his hand like I was wanted an autograph. I asked if we could get a quick picture and this is the part that makes me laugh. He said, “Sure, if you can be quick.” We were all ready with the iPhone, so Keith held it up, took the pic, and Mel was on his way.

The funny part was that you know how normally you’d take a few pictures just to be safe? Well, we have two pictures – one with Mel and one with Mel walking away.

He wasn’t kidding about needing to be quick! And I have a shadow on my face, but I don’t care. It’s Mel Gibson! He’s also in Daddy’s Home 2 that opened this weekend – his first major role in a Hollywood film since What Women Want.

By the way, Cavalia Odysseo is an amazingly beautiful show. It’s playing in Camarillo through the beginning of January. If you get a chance, I highly recommend checking it out. It will blow you away!
