[UPDATE] NYCC 2017 – Hello The Weeknd and a Wonder Woman origin story! Bye Fear the Walking Dead!

New York Comic Con (NYCC) invades New York on October 5th! If you’ve tried to look at the official schedule on the website, you know the web designer is probably an agent of Hydra and does not want fans to get information. It’s an absolute nightmare to browse. To sort through all the chaos, I’ll be highlighting some of the coolest panels as announcements roll out over the next month. I’ll also be keeping track of all sorts of news on autographing, booth activities and exclusives so make sure to visit that page and check back often!

Updates

  • 9/8 Added link to autographing, booth activities and exclusives information, added panels located at the Hudson Mercantile and panels for Artemis, Comic Book Men, Robot Chicken and Replicas
  • 9/14 Added clarification on panel room procedures and information on Freeform panels (Shadowhuntes, Beyond, Sirens)
  • 9/22 Added the professional librarian track, family HQ information, updated details for Dean Devlin panel and added Steven Universe, Epic Reads meet ups, The Shannara Chronicles, Explosion Jones, Worldbuilders party, Badass Women of SciFi, An Evening with Patrick Rothfuss, Batman vs Two-Face world premiere screening, Batman: The Animated Series 25th anniversary panel
  • 9/27 Added panelists for: The Walking Dead, Marvel’s Runaways, Future Man, The Shannara Chronicles and Bad-Ass Women of Syfy
  • 9/30 Possibly my final schedule update for NYCC 2017! Fear the Walking Dead cancelled their debut visit. Added The Weeknd and Professor Marston & the Wonder Women

What’s different for NYCC 2017

  • Artist Alley is moving! The north annex is under construction (boo!) for a new Javits Center expansion (yah!) so we won’t see this space for several years. Artist Alley will now be located in one of the ballrooms on the ground floor. Space will be tight this year!
  • Pre-show lotteries are expanding! Prior to the start of the con, NYCC will hold online lotteries to win tickets to some of the biggest panels (on the Main Stage), exclusive autograph signings and to purchase exclusives. I’ll have more details on lottery specifics, but the lotteries will be live from September 14th to 25th. In the meantime, activate your badge since that’s key to entering the lotteries.
  • Panel rooms madness! The largest panel rooms have different rules so here’s the lowdown on each (follow @NYCCLines on twitter for real-time updates):
    • The Theater at Madison Square Garden (TMSG) – As long as you have a badge for that day, you can head straight to the theater (take 31st to 7th Ave to find the lines). They do not clear the room between panels. Be careful about bringing outside food and drinks since they are serious about not allowing them in.
    • Hammerstein Ballroom – Same procedure as TMSG, but just head down the street.
    • Main Stage – The biggest room onsite at Javits, this is ticketed. Half the tickets are given out in the pre-show lottery (which is live now), the rest will be given out first thing in the morning. This room is cleared between panels.
    • Hudson Mercantile – Some panels require a purchased ticket (see below), but otherwise, its the same procedure as TMSG.
  • Tickets on sale for ticketed panels! NYCC will be using the Hudson Mercantile location again, but this time for some panels that are NOT included on the NYCC badge and require a separate, purchased ticket. I’m wondering if this is their way of recouping money since a chunk of Javits is closed for construction which means less space to sell and fewer tickets to sell. It doesn’t feel like an additional, off-site event which typically happens after the regular con events are over. The one good thing is, if you didn’t get a badge for that day, you can still go to the panel since it requires the purchased ticket and not a badge. I’ll note if a separate ticket is needed with $$$.
  • NYCC is also utilizing the New York Public library for some panels specially geared toward librarians. You’ll need a pro badge to attend these panels which you can read about here.
  • Family HQ is a great place to take the restless kids who might want to learn how to use a lightsaber, make puppets or whatnot. Some activities require signup for their limited slots so check out this link to plan your day.
