I have to tell you, I really liked Pacific Rim when I saw it and I can’t wait to give it a spin on blu-ray! JM did just that and loved the Guillermo Del Toro monster film.
Personally anything that Charlie Hunnam stars in, I’ll show up.

Guillermo Del Toro is one of those rare filmmakers, who can’t seem to do any wrong. Whether he’s directing, producing or writing a movie, Del Toro’s vision supersedes your wildest imaginations. Such is the case with his latest endeavor, “Pacific Rim.”
In the year 2013, gigantic beasts called Kaijus start emerging from an interdimensional portal from the ocean in the Pacific Rim and start attacking the world. The nations in these areas create Jaegers, large humanoid machines manned by two pilots, to fight against Kaijus and effectively defeat these otherworldly creatures. However, each subsequent Kaiju is stronger than the last and eventually the Jaeger program is shutdown in 2025 with most of the humanoid machines being decommissioned by the world powers.
Refusing to give up, Stacker Pentecost (Idris Elba), who heads the Jaeger Program with the Pan Pacific Defense Corps, assembles the remaining Jaegers and decides Earth should not go down without a fight. Raleigh Beckett (Charlie Hunnam) is coaxed out of retirement to lead the charge, but needs to find a suitable replacement to replace his brother, who died in his last excursion.
Mako Mori (Rinko Kikuchi) is in charge of finding Raleigh a replacement, but she is having trouble as she clearly physically compliments Raleigh. However, Pentecost is reluctant knowing very well she is still traumatized after her family was killed during a Kaiju attack in Japan. Sensing their strong connection, Raleigh demands to be paired with Mako otherwise he won’t help out. Meanwhile scientists Newton Geiszler (Charlie Day), a Kaiju enthusiast, and Dr. Hermann Gottlieb (Burn Gorman), an introverted theorist are working hard to unlock the secrets to the Kaiju mind. The question is will they be able to discover the truth in time and help stop the highly anticipated Kaiju attack in a few days?
Seeing “Pacific Rim” in 3D was well worth the few extra dollars and honestly the film I had the most fun with at the theater. Summer blockbusters like this are exactly why people should still see films on the big screen. Not only do the fight sequences and special effects live up to expectations, but actually are the perfect fix for your action movie adrenaline rush. Once again, Guillermo Del Toro demonstrates why he is a master of the horror/sci-fi genres and I strongly suggest you should check this film out!
When buying or renting films I suggest going for the DVD/Blu-ray combo if at all possible because it gives you the best option for your home viewing pleasure. You get the best of both worlds in case you bring the film over to someone’s house that doesn’t have a Blu-ray player. Like most Warner Brothers’ release, this combo pack is loaded with features including 14 featurettes, audio commentaries and so much more. This is a perfect example how a new film should be released on the home video market!
