I can’t even begin to tell you how much I love Pretty in Pink, yep the John Hughes classic has been a staple in my life for years now! This is of course something that Pretty in Pinky and I have in common… Get it… Pretty in Pink, Pretty in Pinky…LOL…

So, Pinky was at an event last week, and just happened to run into James Spader. Killing me! When I’m not around she sees people like James Spader when I’m with her it’s Tara Reid… Sigh…

Hello, my lovelies. Pinky Lovejoy here to talk about finally meeting the one and only James Spader randomly in LA last week. For those who don’t know, James played Steff on my beloved Pretty in Pink and was the douchebag best friend to Andrew McCarthy’s character, Blane. Despite being a total jerk, he still managed to have this sexy quality about him that only James Spader could portray. Although I’ve long hoped to meet him, I never really thought it would happen as there isn’t really good buzz about him in the Land of Collectors. Still, you never know who you’re going to see in LA and it was one of these happy accidents that put “Steff” in my path.

Last week I attended a very low-key premiere for Cloris Leachman’s new movie with my girl, Lindsay, from www.iamnotastalker.com. Despite there being a bunch of other events going on that same night, we chose this premiere because we figured very few other fans would be there, it wouldn’t have security, and you could “roam free” without being tied to a barricade (plus, we really wanted to meet Cloris Leachman). We always prefer to go to the low-key stuff when given a chance and I’m so glad we did! We arrived in plenty of time to see all the arrivals. The red carpet was set-up, a few people were milling about, and then, suddenly, I saw James Spader walk out of the theater. At first I thought he was attending the premiere and just taking a smoke break, so I thought I could wait until he went back in, but then I noticed him walking briskly away. I hesitated for a second thinking it could be some horrible rejection (trust me, we get plenty of those – I’m looking at you, Tobey Maguire, Molly Ringwald, and Tommy Lee Jones), but I couldn’t risk not asking him if there was even a slight chance of it working out. So, I quickly ran up next to him and said, “James, I’m a huge fan. Is there any way I could possibly get a picture with you?” He stopped, looked at me, and said, “Sure, if you hurry.” Lest you think this sounds rude, trust me, it’s pretty standard. Luckily I’ve perfected my picture taking skills to be pretty quick, so I got in, got out, and made way for Lindsay to get her picture, as well. Success!

Now, here’s the thing – when you attend a lot of events, sometimes you can get a bit jaded at seeing the same people all the time. I know it sounds awful, but it happens. Even if you adore the person and love their work, after you’ve seen them at seemingly every event you go to, you stop getting excited (that is, unless it’s Sam Trammell, because I never tire of seeing him). And while the pictures are fun, they don’t always make you giddy. That is, until it’s someone you really love. For example, when Lindsay and I met Olivia Newton-John last year, we waited for her to walk away, and then we lost our minds. We jumped up and down and squealed and became five years old (which was probably our age the first time we saw Olivia on-screen) and were just SO excited we couldn’t even contain ourselves. It was awesome. I love that feeling.

After we got our picture with James Spader, the reaction was a little more extreme. Or, maybe just not delayed enough. You see, the second he walked away, we smiled, joined hands, and started to squeal and jump up and down. I think I may have called out, “Oh my gosh, I can’t believe we met Steff!” Again, he was like two feet away from us, so basically we were doing a “happy dance” right in front of him. Luckily, he seemed completely amused by it and didn’t feel the need to call the cops or have us committed. He could see our pure joy, had a slight smile, and walked away.

A week later and I’m still on cloud nine about meeting Steff. I’ve loved his work in many things – Secretary, Boston Legal, and The Office just to name a few – but he’ll always be Steff to me.
