Throwback! Ready Player One Comic Con Signing! Meeting Steven Spielberg! Tye Sheridan! Olivia Cooke! TJ Miller! Ben Mendelsohn! And More!

With COVID19 cancelling SDCC this year, I thought it would be fun to post a bunch of throwbacks to the con from over the years.

I remember during the signing talking for a second to Steven Spielberg about Ready Player One and he said “You know, out of all the films I’ve done, this movie, I bested by butt on the most.” I was like, “Really?” He said, “Yeah, I really wanted to make it the best I could and it was a real challenge.”

Having a minute to talk to the man behind… So many amazing films was one of those SDCC memories that will stay with you forever.

Check out the Throwback Thurs below!

So much happened at Comic Con this year, I don’t think I’ve been able to process it all. I have been able to process the con crud that I’ve been dealing with for the past week, let me tell you, that’s not been fun.

Regardless, I wanted to share one of my favorite moments from SDCC 2017 and that was the Ready Player One signing. Of course in the morning I pulled a losing ticket but thanks to Billy being nice I was able to get a wristband.

Now, the signing itself had pretty much the entire cast of the film with one giant special guest… Steven Spielberg.

This is just one of those things that can only happen at SDCC. You can get an autograph from someone, but to have a three minute conversation with Steven Spielberg about film… That’s priceless.

The first person at the signing was Tye Sheridan. He was very nice and seemed a little overwhelmed with everything at SDCC.

He was followed by Ernest Cline who was one of the writers and then Ben Mendelsohn from Rogue one and Bloodline. Ben Mendelsohn was super nice and very cool. We talked about Bloodline for a second and the madness of SDCC.

Then… Was Steven Spielberg. It was surreal. I mean this is the man behind Gremlins, Goonies, Hook, Close Encounters, etc… I mean… Fuck.  Steven shook my hand as I babble on and on about how he was the man behind my childhood. He was very nice.

I said, I was looking forward to Ready Player One and he said, “You know, out of all the films I’ve done, this movie, I bested by butt on the most.” I was like, “Really?” He said, “Yeah, I really wanted to make it the best I could and it was a real challenge.”

That’s what I could remember, thankfully Russell was able to get a few photos.

I was so stunned, I didn’t even realize that Olivia Cooke was next from Bates Motel, who I would have geeked out on as well. I was just in a daze.

Zak Penn  was next and he was followed by T.J. Miller who is always super cool.

Such a stunning signing, and I know I’ll remember that snippet of conversation forever.

And the poster looks epic.

Until next time kids…
