Well, color me jealous. I have to say I would have loved to do this and just looking at the pics, it was an epic day. Scott was able to visit the set of Roseanne, the newest sitcom reboot airing on ABC.
The sets look incredible and are pretty much a flashback to the 90’s.
Check out all the pics and the recap below!
Some people love autographs. Some love getting selfies with celebs. I love set visits. I don’t care if the cast is there or not. There is something about getting a photo on an actual set. I’ve been pretty fortunate in my life having visited sets for The Big Bang Theory, Desperate Housewives, The Middle, The Greatest Showman, Gilmore Girls, and so on.. but for me..there are two ultra iconic sitcom sets: the kitchen from The Golden Girls and the living room from Roseanne..
I was thrilled to find out that they are rebooting Roseanne. Roseanne for me is my childhood. Everything about that show takes me back to the late 80’s/early 90’s. I come from a middle class family and grew up in a rural area in the mid-west. Roseanne, for me, represents everything that was going on in my life during the Clinton years..
So in November of 2017- my dreams of visiting Lanford, Illinois finally came true. My friend Angie knew someone who worked on the show. They happily arranged for us to have VIP tickets (Michael “DJ” Fishman’s guest no less). We arrived at CBS Radford (where they taped the original show) and I was on pins & needles. We checked in with security and they basically let us loose on the lot. We walked around for a bit before arriving at the soundstage. There was no one there to check us in so we just walked in the back door.
The first set I saw was a Mexican restaurant that I didn’t recognize. We walked around for a second before seeing someone who worked on the show. They helped us find our seats and helped us get situated. There I sat, 30 feet from 1990. The set looked exactly as I remembered it. The only noticeable change was the chair lift they added to the downstairs stairwell (we would find out in the episode we were seeing taped that Roseanne’s character has bad knees). It was surreal. The entire experience was surreal.
To make a long story short. We were there to see episode 6 being taped. The entire cast was there (including Crystal!!!). The taping was fast and smooth. Most scenes were taped twice. The laughs were fast and furious. It was like the Connor’s never left. Everyone fell right into their characters and it was awesome.
After the taping- we were invited down onto the stage. I met Lecy Goranson and Michael Fishman, both were super down to earth and excited about the reboot. We had margaritas in the Mexican restaurant set and hung out for a bit. They basically gave us free range of the set. It was pretty terrific.
So excited to see ROSEANNE back on March 27th!!!!
