Sony Will Release The Interview In Theaters And VOD!

After a public outcry that no one would have ever expected from a film that Seth Rogan and James Franco made, The Interview will be released according to Sony and The Wrap.

Sony is set to release the film in theaters and on VOD. Apparently, Sony’s new plan is to release the film simultaneously in participating theaters and VOD. The Alamo Drafthouse in Austin and the Plaza theater in Atlanta have said that they would both show the film.

The Interview

According to Michael Lynton, Chairman and CEO of Sony said, “We have never given up on releasing ‘The Interview’ and we’re excited our movie will be in a number of theaters on Christmas Day. At the same time, we are continuing our efforts to secure more platforms and more theaters so that this movie reaches the largest possible audience.

“I want to thank our talent on ‘The Interview’ and our employees, who have worked tirelessly through the many challenges we have all faced over the last month. While we hope this is only the first step of the film’s release, we are proud to make it available to the public and to have stood up to those who attempted to suppress free speech.”

Dish Network was talking about distributing the film but those talks fell apart.
A list of theaters is not available yet, but the Art House Convergence, which is a smaller group of indie theaters have said that they would show the film.

I guess we shall see. The wave of patriotism in regards to The Interview is really an interesting thing. Note to Hollywood, tell people they can’t see a film, and they will clamor to head to the theater apparently.
