Talking With The Cast Of Falling Skies! Doug Jones! Sarah Carter! Drew Roy! Colin Cunningham! How Will It All End?

The battle begins as The 2nd Mass rallies to fight the Espheni overlords and take back planet Earth.

TNT’s hit Sci-Fi action series “Falling Skies” is saying farewell after this 5th and final season. I was lucky enough to attend a round table interview with Drew Roy, Sarah Carter, Colin Cunnigham, and Doug Jones at this year’s Wondercon.

They all shared memories from the last days on set and their thoughts on the final season, but remained tightlipped about certain details to avoid spoilers. “It’s difficult knowing what we can and can’t say,” remarked Cunningham, who plays John Pope, the character we both love and hate. They assured viewers that knowing this would be the final season the writers were able to give each character the proper closure.

They all agreed that the last few days of filming were “surreal” and added that this season was shot mostly on a soundstage with green screen, as opposed to previous seasons that were filmed on location.

Drew – not sad at all a blessing to know you have a final season instead of not knowing you’re getting one.

Sarah Carter, who plays Maggie said, “you take every season as it comes and do your best”. I asked her if she felt Maggie was better off pre or post invasion, since she’s had such a horrible past. She thought it was a great question and felt “Maggie is definitely better off now than before.”

Cunningham noted that this season is “no longer about an airplane or bar or a black market; the stakes are incredibly high.” When asked what he’d miss most about playing Pope, he said, “it’s a great part; it’s a great part.”

Doug Jones, who plays alien ally Cochise, was asked how he approached the role, given he’s played so many creatures on screen. “You have to investigate each one from the ground up. It’s not like I can go into an alien nursing home and do research. The writers provide so much for me start with – it’s great writing.” He added, “I’ll miss being close to people holding guns in the trenches with dirt on your face and a real sense of we have each other’s back.”

Since premiering as basic cable’s #1 new series of 2011, “Falling Skies” has been touted as one of basic cable’s top original dramas. Who will win the final battle for Earth? Tune into TNT on Sunday, June 28th to find out.
