I think everyone in the country and beyond has seen the premiere of Game of Thrones, it was one of the most talked about things the past couple weeks. One of my favorite characters has to be Arya Stark. She rocks!

The Top 5 Arya Stark Moments

The HBO hit Game of Thrones has just begun its fifth season. Now is a great time to take a look back at some of our favorite moments from our favorite Game of Thrones characters; the incomparable Arya Stark. Of course you could re watch all four previous seasons to get your Arya fix (which is disturbingly easy to do in one sitting thanks to services like HBO Go and DTV). But, in the interest of saving you a weekend or two of secluded binge watching, let’s not waste any more time and get right into Arya Stark’s best moments.

Receiving Needle (Season 1, Ep. 2)

While the Stark family is getting ready to depart for Knight’s Landing, Jon gives Arya a Needle. This is an important moment because it helps show how close Jon and Arya used to be. Arya battles with the surging emotions inside her, and this is a turning point for the young girl. She becomes determined to learn how to use Needle and begins practicing daily, just as Jon had told her to do.

Hitting Out at Joffrey (Season 1, Ep. 2)

Arya and Mycah are practicing sword fighting as they are come upon by Prince Joffrey and Sansa. When Joffrey threatens the young boy for hitting Arya, she stands up against Joffrey and hits him with her stick. This ultimately leads to the death of Mycah, which Arya feels guilty for. When Sansa lies and backs Joffrey’s version of what had happened, Arya becomes enraged with Sansa. This is an important moment because it shows the true nature of Arya and Sansa’s relationship, and Sansa’a loyalty to her future husband.

Arya and Tywin’s Relationship (Season 2)

Arya is disguised as a boy and becomes the cupbearer for Tywin Lannister. During this time, Tywin realizes she is not who she claims to be and the two form a bond of sorts. The importance of this relationship lies in learning a little about the way Arya thinks as she befriends someone on her List. This is the first person she would speak to since the death of her father. We watch these two enemies grow into a father and daughter relationship where Arya would do what it takes to please him.

Learning to Dance (Season 1, Ep. 3)

Still upset over the incident with Joffrey and Mycah, Arya’s father helps ease the pain a little by allowing her to learn to sword fight from Syrio. At this time, women were not allowed to train with weapons. They were considered demure and too delicate for intense combat and fighting. This education in swordplay is the beginning of Arya’s life of a brave warrior and someone who will stand up for themselves.

Indifference to Death (Season 4, Ep. 8)

As the news of Arya’s aunt’s passing reaches Arya, she begins laughing which turns into an almost uncontrollable laughing fit. This scene is debated, but it is agreed that is shows a hardening of Arya after taking hit after hit in her live in Westeros. By this point, she seems to realize that she is alone. There is no family left for her and this causes a bit of a breakdown. The fact that the Hound now has no bargaining chip in Arya also leads her to laugh.

Maisie Williams has turned Arya Stark into a feisty young girl and a tough fighter. Fans and critics of both the books and the show appreciate this and have rewarded her with numerous awards and accolades. From receiving Needle to finding out she has no one left in her corner, Arya Stark is definitely one of our favorite characters.
