What’s up autograph fanatics! Ace here on TTM Tuesday to tackle a dissapointing type of return in the TTM hobby: the dreaded PRE-PRINT!
A Pre-Print is basically a printed photo and signature… You can find these Prints usually when the signature looks like it is part of the photo… It has a certain thickness, darkness, and gloss (depending on photo type) usually to it as well. Usually a celebrity signs one photo, and their assistants make thousands of copies to send to fans, hence being called a Pre-Print. You cannot call your photos a Pre-Print, if you sent the photos and the photos you sent were signed… If you have unsigned photos, and were sent a bonus “signed item” it might be either a “pre-print” or a “pre-signed” item.
A “pre-signed” item are “authentic” photos that were pre-signed by the celebrity on a former date, so an agent or secretary can handle your fanmail without not replying or not satisfying your autograph request.
The dreaded “Pre-Print” has become a very common feature in the TTM community. I want to show you a NEED TO KNOW tip. There is a service called STUDIO FANMAIL. If you receive an envelope with a RETURN address from STUDIO FANMAIL, 99.9% of the time the photo in the envelope is a pre-print. (There is only one occasion where I know they sent a secretarial forged autograph.)
Studio Fanmail is a service that has been running since 1962 to serve the entertainment industry as Fanmail caretakers. They serve all the networks from ABC, CBS, NBC, A&E, AMC, BRAVO, Comedy Central, Discovery Channel, Disney Channel, ESPN, Food Network, FOX, HBO, FX, History, Lifetime, MTV, Nickelodeon, PBS, TBS, TNT, WB, USA, CNN, VH1, MSNBC, and BBC. They have notable partnerships with Dreamworks,IMAX, MGM, New Line Cinema, Miramax, Paramount, Pixar, Sony, Universal, Walt Disney, and Warner Brothers.
Regardless, there is a list of celebrities in which you need to be cautious. Of course, over the years, the photo changes, but the signature and service stay the same.
Lou Diamond Phillips
Benicio Del Toro
Cuba Gooding Jr.
Hopefully this helps you guys out! Now, remember, there is always a graphing opportunity out there… You just have to find it.
