TV Heartbeat! Finales for Glee! Empire! Status Check on Who Could Still Get Renewed! Sharknado 3!

It’s a quiet week in TV land with just a few things of note this week!

Glee takes its final bow with a 2 hour finale this week.  Take one last visit to William McKinley High School as they flash back to the very beginning to wrap up the end. So long New Directions!

There are a few more goodbyes with week with the season finale for BBC America’s The Musketeers and HBO’s Girls. The Mindy Project is also signing off for the season. While Mindy doesn’t have an official renewal yet, it’s very likely since another season will qualify it for syndication so we’ll call this a season finale and not a series finale.

And say hello to the Rayburn family of Netflix’s new series, Bloodline. Kevin Rayburn, the black sheep of the family, returns home to dredge up old hurts and wounds. The show stars Tony-winner Norbert Leo Butz, Kyle Chandler, Sissy Spacek and Linda Cardellini.

The talk show roulette continues with the debut of The Late Late Show with James Corden! Who is James Corden? A Brit that’s best known in the States as the Baker in the Into the Woods movie. In the UK, he’s done this sort of thing before so it’ll be interesting to see what tone his show will take.

Tonight: Supernatural moves to a new day (The CW), Empire season finale (Fox)

As Mike previously reported, Syfy renewed 12 Monkeys for another mind-bending season. While it is very different from the film, I’ve been enjoying the fun twists and turns as the story unfolds this season. Emily Hampshire is being promoted to a part of the regular cast so we’ll be seeing more of Jennifer Goines next season!

Also getting a return ticket: Bosch, the new series on Amazon. Based on the books by Michael Connelly, the show had Amazon’s biggest debut weekend so it’s a keeper for the new channel. Next season will focus on the Trunk Music and The Drop books.

Last week’s new launches had good starts for iZombie, Undateable and One Big Happy. iZombie has an excellent Veronica Mars vibe (character with complicated relationships, biting wit, voiceover, solves crime, etc…) so I’m hoping this one comes back!

iZombie

After starting off strong, American Crime dropped sharply so its future is now in doubt and joins Secrets & Lies, Agent Carter, Revenge, Mysteries of Laura, Sleepy Hollow, Last Man on Earth, Hawaii-5-0 and The Good Wife as bubble shows (meaning its future could go either way). As CBS’s strongest award show catnip, The Good Wife is likely to come back regardless of its ratings. Sleepy Hollow’s future will be decided by the merits of its focus for next season since Fox wasn’t thrilled with its mythology-heavy story line.  The finale opened the doors on a lot of possible directions for next year so there’s hope!

Sleepy Hollow (8)

Other shows are practically cancelled and they await the PR department to make things official: Resurrection, Galavant, Cristela, About A Boy, State of Affairs, Constantine, Backstrom, Hart of Dixie, Battle Creek, CSI and Stalker. Hope you enjoyed them while they lasted!

Constantine

But not all is woe in the land of TV! Some shows have a promising chance of coming back next year including: CSI: Cyber and The Odd Couple. Both had a few solid couple of weeks so chances are good they’ll be back for more.

Crystal Ball

It’ll be raining sharks in Washington, DC in July! Yep, the forecast is calling for more Sharnado with the third movie getting a title that would make Pushing Daisies’ Emerson Cod proud: Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No!
