TV Heartbeat! Game of Thrones finale! Outlander and Marvel casting news!

It’s the dreaded last episode of the season for Game of Thrones! (It signals 10 months of separation anxiety before we visit Westeros again.) The finale, entitled “Mother’s Mercy” is officially described by HBO as “Stannis marches. Dany is surrounded by strangers. Cersei seeks forgiveness. Jon is challenged.” I’m guessing that this is an understatement of what’s going to happen. Tune in Sunday!

Game of Thrones season 5

Meanwhile, there’s lots of new stuff happening this week. Plenty of folks may want to cancel their weekend to binge the next season of Orange is the New Black which is available starting Friday.

Syfy is launching Dark Matter where the crew of a derelict spaceship is awakened from stasis with no memories of who they are or how they got on board. The story is based on the Dark Horse Comics graphic novel of the same name.

If you want more adaptions, BBC America is premiering the limited series Jonathan Strange and & Mr. Norrell based on the best-selling book of the same name. In this version of England, magicians study, but don’t practice magic. Magic has been absent for several hundred years – until the appearance of rival practical magicians Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell.

TNT is getting philosophical with Proof where Jennifer Beals plays a woman who’s been tasked by a cancer-stricken, tech-inventor (Matthew Modine) to research strange incidents to see if there’s proof of life after death.

Casting news

Outlander has steadily been announcing new cast members for the second season as Claire and Jamie head off for a fresh start in France. Dominique Pinon will portray the mysterious Master Raymond, Rosie Day as Mary Hawkins, Stanley Weber as Le Comte St. Germain, Robert Cavanah as Jamie’s cousin Jared Fraser, Audrey Brisson as Sister Angelique, Romann Berrux as wee Fergus, and Andrew Gower as Bonnie Prince Charlie himself. Oh, and let’s not forgot Bouton!

No word as yet on two key characters which book-fans are dying to know more about. The lack of news may indicate they are playing with the sequence of the books and we may not see them this season (I think that may actually work better to build some suspense about events in season 2) or they are just filming those scenes in a big block at the end and have months before they need to finalize casting. Perhaps we’ll learn more in San Diego in a month!

Meanwhile, the Marvel world just got a new superhero. Well, sort of new. Netflix is prepping the second season for Daredevil and has just announced Jon Bernthal will joining the cast the Punisher. He’ll be the fourth actor to portray vengeful Frank Castle after Dolph Lungren, Thomas Jane and Ray Stevenson.
