TV Heartbeat! Into the Badlands and Chicago Med debuts! Farewell TBX!

Plot lines continues to heat up this week with most shows signing off for the winter hiatus in a few weeks. Meanwhile, we have a few new debuts and one finale!

AMC starts up its martial arts fantasy, Into the Badlands. This is the story of a young boy (played by Aramis Knight) and his mentor (Daniel Wu) who cross a dangerous land controlled by feudal barons. Oh, guns are banned in this world.

NBC is completing its trilogy of Chicago first responder shows with Chicago Med. If you watch Chicago Fire or Chicago PD, you’re already familiar with several of the characters who will intermingle between the shows. The cast includes Oliver Platt, S. Epatha Merkerson, Colin Donnell, Brian Tee, Nick Gehlfuss and Yaya DeCosta. Before winter hiatus, we’ll have the first Chicago trilogy menage with a three-way crossover between the shows. In the spring, we’ll have a four-show crossover when the three shows meld with Law & Order: SVU.

The fledgling Esquire network is taking a break from reality shows and has its first scripted show, Spotless, about a couple of crime scene clearners who inadvertently get caught up in organized crime. The cast includes Brendan Coyle.

Health check

NBC passed out a few no-brainer renewals, but it’s curious that Law & Order: SVU was off the list since it was one of the early renewals last year. Mysteries of Laura got an additional episode order – of 3 which still brings the show to less than a full season. Yep, I don’t think this mystery will last much longer.

Renewed: Blindspot (NBC), Chicago Fire (NBC), Chicago PD (NBC), American Horror Story (FX), BattleBots (ABC),
Cancelled: Mysteries of Laura (NBC)

Does someone have some kryptionite around? Supergirl’s ratings continued to drop big time so now the show is in danger if this keeps up. Meanwhile, Fox announced their winter schedule which will begin in January. Sleepy Hollow will move to Fridays which is a probable death sentence. The show still has a (slim) chance so hopefully sleepyheads will follow if they want to save their show.
