TV Heartbeat! Orphan Black Finale! Detectives! Vigilantes! Bounty Hunters! Nothing!

The Orphan Black season finale is this Saturday! This season has flown by and each finale has been a huge game changer so what can happen? Now that they’ve found the Castor original, Election Day for the school board is finally here and creepy Franklin is back in the picture, anything can/will happen.

Orphan Black season 3 finale

The Last Ship sets sail for a second season on Sunday! If you missed the first season, you still have time to catch up on this thriller since season two picks up right after the season one cliffhangers. This suspenseful series is off to a great start so don’t miss out! For more on the premiere, you can read my review here.

HBO is also continuing to pump out some new shows now that their signature show, Game of Thrones, is off air for the next 10 months. 10 months to find out if Jon Snow is really dead (where is Melisandre when you need her?!!?!?), if Theon and Sansa survived their big leap off the wall, what Dany will do as a prisoner of the Dothraki (again!), to see what sort of revenge Cersei has in mind for the “shame” bell ringer (remember she did spawn Joffrey who had interesting ideas for torture and she now has FrankenMountain at her command). 10 loooooong months to go!

True Detective is back and no doubt the show will have a strong debut, but it’ll be very interesting to see how this second season fares. The first was hypnotic due to the stellar, pitch-perfect performances by Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson – neither of whom are back for this season. Neither is director Cary Fukunaga who directed the entire (!) first season. This season features the same writer (Nic Pizzolatto), but the show will use a roster of directors (like most shows) with the premier directed by Justin Lin (various Fast and the Furious movies). The cast includes Colin Farrell, Vince Vaughn, Rachel McAdams and Taylor Kitsch.

HBO is also launching a few comedy series. In Ballers, The Rock is a retired football star who wants to move into financial management for current players. In The Brink, we see the funny side of almost-nuclear war with Tim Robbins as the Secretary of State and Jack Black as a Foreign Service officer stationed in Islamabad.

Meanwhile, USA network is launching Complications with Jason O’Mara. O’Mara a plays a disillusioned suburban doctor who unexpectedly becomes a vigilante hero when he intervenes in a drive-by shooting.

Complications omara

USA is also going a little sci-fi with Mr. Robot. Elliot (Rami Malek) is a young programmer/hacker who gets recruited by a mysterious Christian Slater to hack into the firm he’s supposed to protect.

For something a little more sci-fi, Syfy has a new series from the producers of Orphan BlackKilljoys. This is the story of a trio of interplanetary bounty hunters (called Killjoys) who chase fugitives in a time of class wars. Hannah John-Kamen stars as the badass with Alpha Killjoy with her partners played by Aaron Ashmore and Luke Macfarlane.

And for anyone who rather go back in time, PBS’s Masterpiece series is debuting Poldark. Aidan Turner (The Hobbit, Being Human and The Mortal Instruments) stars as a British officer who returns home after the American Revolutionary War only to find that his family estate in shambles and his intended married to his cousin. Doh! At least Poldark will help ease all the bad press Black Jack Randall (Outlander) is giving the redcoats these days…

Want to watch a lot of hours about nothing? (Not that there’s anything wrong with that…) Hulu just acquired the streaming rights to every season of Seinfeld. So feel free to re-watch all the classic episodes where the humor still remains up to date even if the decor in Jerry’s apartment (or his home phone) seem a little dated.

The ironically named The Returned will not be coming back to A&E for a second season since the ratings were less than stellar. Plus, showrunner Carlton Cuse has his hands full with two more seasons of Bates Motel, The Strain and the upcoming new show, Colony.

Degrassi is back in session! The show was cancelled a month ago, but Netflix is waving its magic resurrection stone and is bringing the show back for another season. Look for new episodes next year.
