TV Heartbeat! The Walking Dead is Taking Over Your TV! Sherlock Will Be Back But Not Anytime Soon! Halle Barry In Space!
Happy Birthday America! It’s time to celebrate the Fourth of July with (what else?) TV marathons! And what sort of marathons go best with this holiday? Networks seem to think that The Twilight Zone (Syfy), The Walking Dead (AMC), Ray Donovan (Showtime) and Masters of Sex (Showtime) are the best celebrate our nation’s birthday. (Of course!)
The Walking Dead marathon (titled Dead White and Blue) will include ALL seasons of the show and end Sunday with a Talking Dead special edition to preview the new season. If that wasn’t enough zombie fun for you, there’s also a look behind the scenes on Tuesday with Inside The Walking Dead.
The big TV debut this week is the limited series Extant. Executive produced by Steven Spielberg, this show features Halle Berry as an astronaut who returns from a long-term space mission inexplicably pregnant. Yeah, something big will happen and I’m guessing it’s not Halle’s belly or ankles. (Though you’d think she’d be used to mutant kids by now…) Extant’s cast also includes Goran Visnjic (ER, Beginners, Red Widow), Camryn Manheim (The Practice, Ghost Whisperer), Grace Gummer (Meryl Streep’s daughter) and Hiroyuki Sanada (Lost, Revenge).
If you’re looking for something more grounded, head to HBO on Mondays. HBO, a powerhouse for championing documentaries, will officially slot documentaries onto their Monday night schedule for the rest of the year. They kicked off this new program with The Case Against 8 and 112 Weddings. This week will feature Dangerous Acts Starring the Unstable Elements of Belarus which looks at a theater group which faces harsh censorship and threats for the content of their productions.
A couple of very different shows return for their second season – The Witches of East End begins brewing new adventures on Sunday.
Then the critically acclaimed FX series, The Bridge, starts its second season on Wednesday. I had a chance to chat with its star, Diane Kruger so look for more information on where they are headed this season!

NBC is bringing back the Night Shift for next summer! And there will be more drama as they extend the episode order to 14 next year.
CBS’s Reckless is stumbling a bit with soft ratings. Several cast members tweeted live last week in an attempt to boost its audience. If you’re a fan, start banging that drum if you want the show to keep going.
Crystal Ball
Sherlock Holmes is back!!!! But, well, don’t hold your breath! The game won’t be on for another year and a half when Sherlock will have its first Christmas special next year! A bonus since season 4 will start later. The date on season 4’s debut is yet to be announced, but it does seem that we should look to 2016. Yep, scheduling is a nightmare when you need to get Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman together. So we’ll still need to wait forever for more Sherlock, but at least we’re getting that bonus Christmas special! Merry Christmas!
And speaking of gifts, fans of Community should thank Yahoo Screen which is going to air the 6th season of the show! There’s also talk of a movie! Yes, those internet streaming angels have resuscitated another show (a la Netflix’s revival of The Killing and Arrested Development). Let’s hope they keep a watch out and continue to save worthy shows! Now if people can just figure out what Yahoo Screen is…
Stay tuned!
