If it’s August in Chicago, it’s time for Wizard World (aka Chicago Comic Con)!
This year’s edition was smaller than previous years with a shorter celebrity list which didn’t include anyone I was interested in. Well, not at the prices they quoted. So my day at Wizard this year was rather brief. Still it was fun to walk around and see friends.
Complicating matters for Wizard, the event’s biggest name, David Tennant, had to cancel due to personal issues. At least the ladies of Doctor Who (Alex Kingston and Jenna Coleman) were on hand with size able lines and kept the fans happy.
Interestingly, if you squint hard, you may see a poster for a book that allegedly scammed its way to the top of the New York Times bestseller list. You can read all the details about how Book Twitter investigated and how the NYT updated the list here
. The author claimed that her promotion at Wizard conventions helped build demand for her book, but I can’t imagine that this booth can make a New York Times bestseller out a debut author and debut publisher.
The cosplay at Wizard this was subdued this year as well, but there are still some gems like this Stay Puft Marshmallow Dog…
Rey with a light-up BB-8…
and Professor X.
This tiny Black Panther was super excited to meet his older self.
Of course this month is all about Game of Thrones and everyone was trying to sit on the Iron Throne…
But let’s give a special shout out to the Queen of Thrones, Lady Olenna who went out like a boss!
So that was my Wizard Chicago this year! Sort of a mini-version this year, but it was still fun to walk around and see friends.
