When I was… Oh gosh… Four apples high, I was obsessed with television, movies, actors and the entertainment industry in general. When there was an awards show, I made sure I knew everyone who was nominated, saw all the films, etc…
At that time, I was pursuing acting as my career, if someone who still collected Smurfs could have a career trajectory.
One day, I was flipping though some movie magazine and saw an add for a celebrity address book… huh? That could be fun. So, I plopped down my hard earned $3.95 and a few short weeks later it arrived in the mail.
From there, I started writing to my favorite actors, actresses, musicians, etc… It started my fanboy adventures to be sure.
Instead of the usual fan letters, I would always ask people I wrote to how they started in acting? What advice would they give an aspiring actor? Etc…
What started coming back astounded me. Not only was I getting signed photos, but books, memorabilia and hand written letters.
That’s it… I was hooked! I was bitten by the fanboy bug to say the least.
After I got a tad older, I packed up my bags and moved to the City of Angels. I tried my hand at acting and did okay. I was in a bunch of indie movies, went out for every football player part in this town, was brutally sliced out of American Wedding, wrote, produced and starred in a play that got a pretty decent review in LA Weekly and then…
Then I decided… You know what… I like being a fan far better than I do acting.
I hung up my SAG card and the rest is history.
Starting this website has been a labor of love. I love sharing my fandom experiences but more than that I love hearing everyone else’s stories. I love hearing about conventions, movie locations, meet celebrities good and bad, I love it all.
I sincerely hope you enjoy my exploits, the adventures of everyone who submits an article, and all the members of the Fanboy Family!
Without everyone who writes and reads MTF there wouldn’t be a site. This is truly for the fans, by the fans!
