Oh Michael Keaton… How you plague me.
I love the 1980s. Love them. I love the films of the 1980s and I thought Michael Keaton was so good in movies like Beetlejuice, Mr. Mom, Gung Ho, and more.
Now, Michael Keaton has always been a difficult one, I’ve only met him once and it was hard to get then. Now with Birdman on the awards route… Who knows.
Michael Keaton was doing a q and a for Birdman with Edward Norton, another fan friendly one, lol.
When I arrived, Big Mike was already on the scene. He saved me a spot and then Ace, Alex, Chris, Hector, Scotty and everyone started to fill in the space. It was super hot, and the sun was-a-blazing.
Hector made a sign that pretty much summed up everyone’s feelings about the day.
And we wait.
It’s Edward Norton. He walked right in and when asked if he would sign after he said, “Yeah, maybe.”
Wow, that’s more encouraging than I thought.
Then Michael Keaton arrived. He motioned he would do it after, and we were all feeling pretty good.
We all chatted, hung out, and Michael’s publicist said, he would sign one each down the line.
I thought, if I can get one thing signed, I’m a happy dude.
Then the q and a was over. Apparently Edward Norton snuck out the front. Ugh… So much for that!
Then Michael Keaton comes out. He comes over to the far side and starts to sign. Then… He starts to skip around down the line. Uh oh… He is asking for names but only signing one for every five people.
You could hear the yelling and begging. Oh shit, I thought to myself.
Michael Keaton signed Big Mike’s Jackie Brown poster and then skipped me and 10 other people down the line. What!
And in a matter of 15 more seconds, he was off and jumped in his car.
I had this super rare promo for Beetlejuice, the original VHS promo Handbook for the Recently Deceased. Sigh…
I mean, it’s worse when someone does it and you don’t get them. Especially when someone skips around and gives you no rhyme or reason. I even heard that Michael Keaton was personalizing the wrong items down the line, so if your name was bob you might get it made out to Ryan.
It was really disappointing, especially when his publicist said he would do one each? I mean hello… If you’re going to do it, just do it. James Cameron, John Carpenter, Mark Hamill even for God sakes have signed here and did it, so can Michael Keaton.
I’m a little more than bummed to say the least…
Until next time kids…
