After surviving the Godzilla premiere last night I was lucky enough to be at the Rick Springfield superfan fest also known as walk of fame
I arrived at 6 am to discover 7 people in front of me (the Wof statement said do not line up earlier than 7 am) but this week I learned how rabid Rick Springfield fans can get (did you know there is a Rick Springfield cruise?)
Not saying I don’t enjoy his acting and songwriting but these girls came in groups! With stickers, tour shirts, shirts made just for the event, it was a sight to behold! Several women had purses with them with Rick Springfield on it and cell phone covers with similar images!
The nice thing is (204) provided studio film crew restrooms which is extremely rare at these events it would be great to see more of it considering people now are bringing children etc…
So about 10am they let us in the caged area wristbands checked by —- in charge)
But I got a great spot and had to continue listening to other peoples anxiety and bad singing, yes I said singing… a lot of the fans Sang along to ricks greatest hits and were amusing but the person near me was a reminder of why I don’t go to dive bar karaoke night. So 11:30 rolls around and Richard Marx is there as well as Rick Springfield…
general hospital friends and co stars I never saw general hospital so I couldn’t tell you anything (remember passions!!! That was a great soap opera)
Standard first speaker and second speaker (both gh) third Richard Marx who was amusing and quirky
(he introduced him and Rick as the 2 dicks and made light of their matching mullets back in the day)
Last was Rick who was a little teary eyed and overwhelmed but was really cool and down to earth.
While the star was unveiled the bad singer decided to start screaming for Richard Marx to sign (even though she knew there were signs that flat out said NO AUTOGRAPH REQUESTS she preceded shoving her cassette single at him. He politely declined which really irritated a pal and I who had decent stuff for him,
so after the press interviews and being briefed by —- in charge the publicist brings rick over to sign and he is super gracious. When he comes to my section I have my pen out for him because I notice he isn’t holding one, his publicst asked if Rick can keep the pen I said sure as long as he signs my 2 things (I have a record from 1972 misprint ultra rare and a efx program also kinda rare) and of course he was kinda amused by what I had and still stunned from the event as a whole.
I then take that as a cue to call it done until next time
