The newest X-Men made their big debut at New York Comic Con! No, these aren’t the mutants who are about to take on Mr. Sinister in the yet-to-be-named next X-Men movie. Nope, there is a live-action X-Men TV show on the way!
This new wave of X-Men won’t be quite as technicolor as their big-screen siblings. Legion is produced by Lauren Shuler Donner (who produced every single X-Men movie) and Marvel TV godfather Jeph Loeb for FX. This is going to be a different look at mutants and with Noah Hawley (of the superb Fargo) at the helm, you can bet we’re going to have some interesting characters.
Debuting on FX in February, Legion is a schizophrenic whose different personalities has something to do with his mutant powers.
Legion is played by Dan Stevens, best known as Matthew Crawley on Downton Abbey and soon to be known as the Beast opposite Emma Watson in the new Beauty and the Beast film. The cast also includes Aubrey Plaza, Bill Irwin and Fargo’s Jean Smart.
At NYCC, they’d debuted about a half hour from the pilot and chatted (cryptically) about what’s in store for the new series. (No commitment on whether or not we’d see Legion’s dad.)
Afterwards, the cast headed to the Marvel booth for the last major signing of NYCC! Even after a full day of doing press, they were all very lively and happy to greet fans. Dan Stevens continues to be one of the most charming people on the planet. He was very quippy with all the fans at the signing.
