San Diego Comic Con 2012 Day 1! Thursday! With Jonny Lee Miller! Lucy Liu! Archer Cast! Elijah Wood and the Cast of Wilfred! Autographs! Photos and More!
Today is the first official day of San Diego Comic Con! I’m again now feeling prepared at all… But I’m here in lovely San Diego getting ready for the onslaught of crazy that will await me today. Thursday is generally speaking a slow day for signings and stuff but there are always a few so it’s good to get a jump on things.
Every year things are harder and harder at SDCC so I’m hoping for the best yet preparing for the worst!
7:00 a.m. – Ah, the view from the hotel window! Overlooking beautiful San Diego! Looks a tad gloomy though… Sadness…
7:24 a.m. – I’m entering the convention hall now. I’m heading upstairs to FOX for their signings. Every booth pretty much is doing all their signings at the same time. YAY! Kidding, it’s not the actual signings but the link drawings. Oh what fun!
7:31 a.m. – And the chaos begins! Today FOX has the Wilfred signing along with Archer. I’m going through the line with suddenly Susan and Billy Beer.
7:45 p.m. – The Other Mike is in line with some MTF fans from Wisconsin! Andrew and John! I’ve met a few people who read the site today, which is really great! I love the fact that it’s not just my mom reading all this stuff! LOL…
8:31 a.m. – Okay Fox is starting the line drawing! Susan got a Wilfred, me? I got a rock? Dammit! Okay, not a rock, I got the signing for the animated series Archer.
8:43 a.m. – Thankfully, there are not that many people in line so I’m through again, and… I still got a rock. Dammit!
9:21 a.m. – Okay, five times around and I couldn’t pick a fucking winning Wilfred ticket to save my life. Seriously? If this is a sign of the convention ahead, I have to quote Tootie Ramsey… “We’re in trouble… Make that a double!”
10:01 a.m. – We are putzing around the convention floor. Susan and I are heading up for the Elementary signing. It’s a new series with Jonny Lee Miller and Lucy Liu. It’s a retelling of the Sherlock Holmes saga.
10:09 a.m. – I should note the Novel Strumpet is super excited for Elementary… HEH HEH HEH…
10:23 a.m. – Headed up into the Elementary pen. It’s not too bad but more packed then I thought it would be. Perhaps the pull of the Liu has brought more people out…Who knows
10:39 a.m. – Oh, there’s Billy Beer… Can you spot Billy Beer in line in this photo?
10:54 a.m. – So, the rumors were that the CW was going to do a raffle, but since they told everyone that this was going to be a “first come first served” signing they didn’t. God, I hate raffles.
11:09 a.m. – Now, we have our tickets! Thank God… I wasn’t expecting to put this much work into a signing for a show that’s not even out yet!
11:25 a.m. – The CBS dude is guiding us down through the convention floor and let’s just say this is more than a tad chaotic. You would think there would be a better way, but maybe not.
11:34 a.m. – Okay, we are at the booth. I have crossed the sea of people and am waiting my turn.
11:37 a.m. – Oh Lord, all they gave them to sign was an 8×10 photo. Really guys? What happened to the mini posters! Grrrrrrr..
11:39 a.m. – And there’s Jonny Lee Miller and Lucy Liu! Lucy looks great.
11:42 a.m. – We are starting to go though, and neither star is hyper talkative. I told Jonny that I loved Trainspotting and he barely looked up to say anything. Wow… Okay.
Lucy was a little more friendly. I told her I was watching Ally McBeal last night and she said, “that’s old.” Well, not the time of my life let me tell you and it goes without saying that it was too much for too little. lol…
12:09 p.m. – Since Susan got a ticket for Wilfred we’re heading there. I’m trying to get in on standby so I’m crossing my fingers. FOX is literally the only booth that does standby tickets. Even though it always doesn’t work out I appreciate the booth trying to get in as many fans as possible. They really do go the extra mile.
12:34 p.m. – Okay, I am the official end of the line keeper! YAY! LOL… I’ve never worked so hard to get into a signing in my life! I mean that Wilfred poster is cool, but come on now…
1:09 p.m. – I’m directing everyone, I think people actually believe that I’m one of the workers for FOX since I’m holding a sign. This just goes to show you, anyone can hold a sign and if you know what you’re saying people will believe you.
1:34 p.m. – I’m literally directing people left and right. LOL… The line is moving so I’m in a good spot to get in if they do overflow.
1:45 p.m. – The signing is zipping along, I think the entire cast is here. Every time I see Elijah Wood I think of Big Mike now! Sorry bro!
2:09 p.m. – Yay, the sign has been taken away and I’ve been given my ticket. Dear God, I’ve worked hard for this signing!
2:11 p.m. – Everyone was really nice at the signing.
Elijah Wood always makes sure and say hi to everyone as they pass which I appreciate.
2:22 p.m. – Susan, Billy and I run back to FOX for the Archer signing. That’s at 2:45 and I actually have a ticket for that one! YAY!
2:48 p.m. – Oh, the signing is starting.
3:09 p.m. – Just heading up now.
Everyone on this cast is really nice.
I was telling Aisha Tyler that my friend was very upset that she died on Ghost Whisperer. LOL.. She said, well, I’m in the other world, I’m not really gone. LOL… So nice!
3:34 p.m. – Susan and I headed up stairs and Billy is going to join us. We’re waiting for the Beauty and the Beast signing at 5:00. This is another first come first served signing.
3:45 p.m. – Oh, and there’s Billy!
3:54 p.m. – The pen is open and people who have been hovering all over the place are filtering in. Susan, Billy and I are first. Whoo hoo…
4:01 p.m. – I’ll tell you everything has been so hard today. Raffles, raffles, raffles. It used to be if you showed up early enough you would get in, now these raffles are messing everything up. I’m glad that there are still a few first come first served signings out there.
4:11 p.m. – They just announced that this is going to be a raffle drawing. Dammit! I’m a tad pissed!
4:23 p.m. – Susan drew and didn’t get it! Dammit! I drew and got it! Billy drew and got a rock. Dammit!
4:34 p.m. – Susan and Billy are on their second lap. Susan is fit to be tied.
4:45 p.m. – Billy got it! Susan didn’t dammit!
4:51 p.m. – There’s Herbert Jefferson Jr. who played Boomer on the original Battlestar Galactica. It’s not a convention if Herbert Jefferson Jr. isn’t there!
5:09 p.m. – Well, they are running late. The signing was supposed to start at 5:00!
5:11 p.m. – We are heading down now.
5:15 p.m. – I’m first in line and when I get down I see Susan in front of me! Say wha! Susan worked some Magic and got in. God bless her. I of course had to joke that she must go after me! lol…
5:16 p.m. – The stars of beauty and the beast are arriving. Apparently a lot of people love Kristin Kreuk from Smallville! Jay Ryan plays the beast in the series.
5:18 p.m. – both stars were really sweet and thank Jesus they have a mini poster! YAY!
5:29 p.m. – Okay now it’s on to the Showtime party. The awesome folks at Showtime invited me to their party tonight and with The Novel Strumpet and The Lovely Erica otherwise engaged, Suddenly Susan was nice enough to accompany me. I have to head over to my hotel first though and change as I’m worried I have violated rule #2 and am a tad stinky.
7:23 p.m – We grabbed some food and am now changing my shirt. Whew. I’ll tell you this day has been long… LONG!
8:08 p.m. – Just arrived at the Showtime party! YAY! I grabbed my friend Annette who has been here for a bit and we got a quick photo.
8:11 p.m – The party is really hopping with Dexter themed cocktails and a cool mural.
8:39 p.m. – The mural was dexter themed with plastic sheeting and knives. Damn. It’s really cool.
8:59 p.m. – We’re about to head out and someone took all the Showtime swag bags! I’m so bummed. Man, that just sums up a lot of this day.
People are savages! That’s one thing about a con like this, it brings out the best and worst in people… The best as in helping with lines, tickets, etc.. the worst stealing all the showtime swag bags! Susan and I literally saw two people carrying 10 bags out of the omni hotel where the party was. They should be ashamed. Sigh… I’m a tad down right now, it’s been a hard and trying day. I know I was successful in the things I went out for, but I shouldn’t have had to work so hard… Maybe I’m getting too old for this shit! LOL… NEVER!
Onwards and upwards!

Good first day Mike! Can’t tell in the photo but was Jessica Walter at the Archer signing? Loved her on Arrested Developement.
Whew, I’m tired from reading that. Maybe this year was a good year for me to take Comic-Con off. I’ll be back next year!
