Tomb Raider 4DX Theater Review! Experience Movies In A Whole New Way and Be Apart Of The Action!
When it comes to heading out and watching movies in the theater, for me it’s an experience. I want to go in, get my popcorn and soda, meet up with friends and make the most out of a night out. It seems like anymore these days with so many ways to consume content and so much content to consume the communal act of heading out the movie theater is a lost art.
This is why I’m so happy I’ve been able to experience 4DX theaters. Now, I’m sure you’ve heard me talking about it before, but I really feel this is the next generation of movie going. It’s in Los Angeles and 10 theaters across the country right now.
First a little more about 4DX for the uninitiated:
“Movies are no longer confined to the screen. 4DX draws you into the movie as if you’re living inside its world. We provide the largest number of multisensory signature effects industry-wide. With 20 different kinds of signature effects, 4DX creates the most outstanding environment for movies.
Every second counts in the movie experience. What matters is how we transform those moments into reality. Delivering precise and elaborate seat motions with the movie scenes is our specialty. Not only do 4DX motion seats have a wide range of speed control, they also deliver precise vibrations to bring out realistic emotions and feelings.”
I’m sure that all sounds amazing, but you really need to experience it for yourself. Fortunately, I was able to check out the midnight showing of Tomb Raider in 4DX and I have to tell you, it was amazing. Now, this is the perfect film to see in 4DX, I’ve seen a few others, Geostorm (Don’t judge me), Atomic Blonde and Wonder Woman but Tomb Raider was by far the best experience I’ve had to date.
The film itself was surprisingly good, which always helps, but I was so immersed in the world and what was onscreen which was emphasized by the 4DX. When Laura Croft AKA Alicia Vikander was in the aforementioned Tomb of Tomb Raider especially and when she was on the island. The seats followed the pan shots perfectly and during the white water rapid sequence the 4DX enhanced the scene in subtle yet effective ways. I really felt like I was on the journey with Alicia Vikander as opposed to watching her journey. I was immersed into the action and It really was something special.
Even with that, what I loved the most about the 4DX this time was the subtlety, which you might be scratching your head about with a theater that has moving seats, water spraying, lighting effects, smoke, etc… But it’s true. The character moments were even brought to life more. In one sequence Laura Croft was trying to get a moment of sleep. It was lightly raining onscreen and, in the theater, it was just dripping water, like you were right there with her. The combination of the moisture and subtle movement of the water really sucked me into the movie, more so than I think I experienced in the past.
It was pretty incredible to see this technology work, not only during a big action sequence but in a small subtle scene like this one. It really showed me a lot of where this technology can go and what the possibilities are. It really Is endless.
Right now, there are 10 theaters in the United States equipped with 4DX theaters:
Regal Union Square Stadium 14 (NYC)
Regal’s E-Walk Stadium 13 & RPX (NYC)
Regal L.A. Live Barco Innovation Center (Los Angeles)
Regal Pointe Orlando Stadium 20 & IMAX (Orlando)
Regal Meridian 16 (Seattle)
Regal Gallery Place 14 (Washington, D.C.)
Marcus Gurnee Mills Cinema (Chicago DMA)
CGV Buena Park (Orange County CA)
Cinépolis Pico Rivera (Los Angeles area)
Cinépolis Vista (San Diego area)
If you live close to one of these theaters, I highly suggest you check it out. Honestly, I think that this could be the key to keeping the movie-going experience special and something that can be appreciated for generations to come. It makes going to the movies special again.
