Here’s A Question… Why Is Molly Ringwald Such A Nasty Bitch? A Report From Her Book Signing At The Festival Of Books! 1980’s Nastiness!
Okay, okay.. I know what you’re thinking because I was thinking it myself… Why? Why Mike do you keep trying. I sometimes say that in the third person when I have a bad encounter over an over again.
I mean what did I really expect?
This weekend was the Festival of Books and I’m going to have a lot of great recaps from the event. Everyone was so frakkin nice, living legends were nice, everyone was kind except one person.
Can you guess who? Yep, the nastiness that was Molly Ringwald.
Now, I did it all. I went to her reading.
Molly read passages from her new tome When It Happens to You. It’s Molly Ringwald’s fiction debut and honestly I thought wow… How interesting to read a fiction book from a former celebrity.
Then I went to the reading. After first hearing the words, “shed her uterine wall” and then “he thought his penis was going to fall off” I decided… this is not a book for me. Shedding uteruses and falling off male members are simply not what I would call light reading.
There was a section where she also verbally said, “Goo Goo Ga Ga.” Yep, I spell checked that.
It was an interesting reading to say the least.
Now, it was time for the signing. I didn’t join the line, I waited in the press area because I wanted to see how it was all going to play out. Numerous people in line had DVD covers, photos, etc…
So, I was like… Well, before plunking down my $25.00 for a book with penis that fall off I wanted to see if she was signing other items. Her handler told one elderly lady that Molly would not sign her small autograph book. The elderly lady was clearly miffed.
It was interesting too to watch the interaction between her and the people buying the book. She was straining to be nice. Like, “I have to be nice” and as soon as one person left she went back to scowling.
One 16 year old girl had a 16 Candles DVD cover and Molly told her to her face, “No, I can’t do that.” Wow, like that would have killed her.
It’s sad because living legends Debbie Reynolds, Carol Burnett and others would sign whatever you had… Yet Molly Ringwald was the one with the holier than thou attitude.
Later in the day, Ace, OTG John, Karalee and I ran into Molly as she was leaving the event. Half of me didn’t even want to bother trying to ask her. Although I did have my Pretty In Pink mini poster that only needed her on it, sooooo… What to do.
Ace approached her with the books and I walked up next to him. She stopped and signed Ace’s two book and I asked her if she would mind signing the Pretty in Pink mini poster.
“I’m only signing books!” she said with a grimace.
Sigh… I took a page out of Pinky’s book and said, “you’re the last person I need on this and I will never bother you again.”
“I’m only signing books!” she exclaimed.
Karalee quietly asked if she could get a quick photo and Molly snapped back…
“No posed photos!”
Like she was back in the signing line.
And so went yet another Molly Ringwald fail. Eventually, I’ll get all my items signed, failed try after failed try. And with every fail I’ll probably still be wondering why Molly Ringwald is such a nasty bitch.
I’m an optimist, at least I like to think so, which is why I try and try again.
Sigh…
Until next time kids…

OMG! I was holding onto hope that this icon from my youth wasn’t going to be such a mean soul.
Can we add the “Angry Molly” award for celebrities who are complete Assholes like Molly Ringwald…time and time again? This is so disappointing she would be that way after all these years. Some people amaze me and it’s sad time and time again she still acts like it’s the 1980s. Sorry Mike for having another bad experience with the B known as Molly Ringwald
Bitch!
okay decision made…i’ll leave my memory as a decent one.
I thought she was rude; I gave her a cordial, “hi”, she said a very curt hi. I feel very wounded that a celebrity I admired would be so rude to a fan. Not to mention, this is my first time meeting a celebrity.
If she was rude to me once, rude to me a second time….. That’s it no more i’d say! No more…… Fool me once…… Fool me twice….. Mike I know you want it signed but sheesh she is so rude!!!!!!!!!!! No celebrity is worth that being so mean to you:(
As you have read on past MTFB blogs you know I have tried to praise Molly and to say she’s not such a bad person that most people put her out to be…BUT……
witnessing how she behaved at the book festival I have actually had a change of heart.
I mean turning down a 16 girl who was obviousely a fan is inexcusable. Molly had a huge turnout and the least she could have done to show her appeciation is to sign a piece of memorbilia for every book purchased. EVERYONE else at the book fair were cool and would sign other items. You sign at the airport for the dealers Molly? Start doing ot for the real fans. Gets the Angry Theo Award.
I agree, I think at least signing one piece of memorabilia per book purchased would have been fair!
WTH she signs for dealers but won’t sign for fans?? Okay that’s balanced……. What a jerk! Apparently she has proven she doesn’t care about the fans and that’s pathetic. I will sign for dealers but fans forget it……. I’d rather people ” pay” for my autographs online ( dealers) is what she is essentially I want people to ” pay” for my books at the book fair. What a class act…..
I walked away halfway through her reading. Gag. Don’t quit your day job…oh wait…
I met her st a book signing around the dame time. I was at a Womans expo and I thought it would be cool to have my 5 yr old meet her. I grew up on her movies and I mentioned Pretty in Pink. I guess that was a no-no. She then completely blew me off in mid sentence. I ended up finishing my story to her husband who was sitting next tk her. That made her even more miffed and she scowled at me. She told my Daughter how pretty her dress was and was kind of sweet to her. I will give her that. But she really hurt my feelings. Everytime I see her old movies on tv I think about how rude she was. She truly is a “Claire” mean girl!
Have a friend who went to the MTV Rock and Roll New Years Eve Ball for YEARS (her Grandpop was a music producer) and met Molly many times. She said she was an INCREDIBLY stuck up, snotty, conceited bitch in person. Those were her exact words!! I never thought she was all that talented. How shamelessly rude , bitchy and standoffish she is to her fans through the years is absolutely inexcusable!!
Just tried to meet her last night, she was doing a jazz show over here in Australia, she did sign autographs after the show if you purchased a cd from the pop up shop but she would not pose for photos, out of about 60 people she posed for one girl that looked like her and that was at the end of the line, as she finished signing and was being ushered away and I asked for a quick photo, to which she didn’t even look at me, you could see lots of people just shaking their heads at Molly after asking for a photo, what I don’t get is she never says I don’t like doing photos she always uses some excuse, like oh I am late for this or that????
anyway I decided to hang around after to try and catch her leaving the venue as I had driven a fair distance for this, when she finally left the building she was with three people and I asked politely “Molly can I grab a photo real quick please” to which her handler just said no and they ran around the van looking for the quickest way in, it was like heaven forbid there is a person asking for something lets get out of here, I said “doesn’t she like fans”???? no answer, the guy that was with her looked embarrassed to be there, once inside the van they then proceeded to laugh at me as if look at this loser wanting a photo, I really wish I could have had a go pro camera to record it just so others could see her in action, the kicker here is that she appears on local tv shows over here and tells stories of how she loves her fans!!!!!!! I had read that she wasn’t nice but she really is a nasty cunt, but like Mike says you have to try??? just a horrible not nice person, feel sorry for her.
I went to school with her, Walter Reed in North Hollywood. She was a complete bitch. Ask anyone that attended. View alumni sites on Facebook. No one likes her, NO one. I’m sure game made her even worse.
All I am getting out of this blog is that you are all a bunch of oversensitive whiny cunts crying over the fact that she wasn’t allowed to sign videos or the way she says “hi” How bout nobody likes of you people.

It’s so fascinating to me that people comment on things that, 1. they have never experienced or 2. they have no concept of. Clearly, I’ve been meeting celebrities, getting autographs, collecting for years and years. The site has TONS of amazing stories and encounters, and yet… I get someone calling me a cu*t for calling out someone who has been notoriously nasty to fans for years. So much so, that when I talked to one of her former co-stars, they even hated her.
But live in your bubble, it’s cool.
Yet she’s good enough to offer advice to anyone who visits her blog on the guardian website. She’s’ known for being genuine and speaking her mind, sure her bluntness may rub some (sensitive) people off the wrong way but if her not being allowed to sign anything but your book is seriously the worst you’ve suffered from her; then I must be a man amongst pink poodles.
Of the seven times I’ve met her, one time she was nice. The other six, she was mean and nasty. Of all the times everyone I know has ran into her or met her, she’s been a nasty bitch. But go ahead, read her website and think she’s nice. TBH, I could give two shits what the fuck you think.
Did you just not read that second sentence. You seem like a really attentive, understanding and empathetic kind of guy. Seriously though I hope I’m never like you.
Once a bitch, always a bitch.
GGG is obviously a troll. Don’t feed the trolls, Mike.
