I usually wait a bit to do a Throwback but I just love Star Trek Discovery so much and season two is just as awesome as the first season, so I had to do it!
This was an amazing event and I’m so thankful that I was able to go.
Check it out below!
Out of all the television shows on the air right now, Star Trek: Discovery is one of my favorites. It’s one of the best Star Trek series ever, and that’s a bold statement from me. I’ve been a Star Trek fan since I was four apples high and being 6’4 that’s quite a long time ago.
I was lucky enough to attend a special FYC event for the series with Lisa Lisa and Billy Beer. And let me tell you… It was amazeballs.
The panel included:
- Sonequa Martin-Green (“Commander Michael Burnham”)
- Doug Jones (“Lt. Saru”)
- Anthony Rapp (“Lt. Paul Stamets”)
- Mary Chieffo (“L’Rell”)
- Wilson Cruz (“Dr. Hugh Culber”)
- James Frain (“Sarek”)
- Alex Kurtzman, Executive Producer
- Gretchen J. Berg, Executive Producer
- Aaron Harberts, Executive Producer
- Heather Kadin, Executive Producer
Now, when we arrived there were Star Trek: Discovery foam hands on our chairs, which is super fun.
There were bagels with Star Trek shaped butter pads as well as Star Trek donuts.
And signs everywhere. It was early in the morning, so there was coffee and tea as well.
The reception was before the screening and I was able to meet Mary Chieffo who was adorable! I love our pic!
Then we spotted Sonequa Martin-Green who was over the top cool.
She lined people up in the theater and formed a reception line, So sweet. I couldn’t resist telling her how much the show means to me. We talked about the LGBT inclusion in the series and how seeing Star Trek finally have that is so important.
Yep, let’s say I was getting a bit emotional. I’m like hold it together Fanboy, hold it together!
After that, we talked with Wilson Cruz, who was also super nice. We talked for quite a bit about the series and again how inclusive it is and how it’s just great science fiction.
Doug Jones was there as well. He was nice, but hesitant about signing autographs. He made sure we weren’t “dealers” and Lisa and I assured him we were not.
The calm nature of the event was great, because Lisa Lisa and I were able to actually talk to people about the series and that was really special.
Alex Kurtzman was also very cool. We spoke with him about the series and he said that the most comments they get is about the LGBT aspect, which I thought was pretty amazing.
The screening started and we watched the Harry Mudd episode. It was very cool to see the series on the big screen.
The panel was really good as well. So many things were talked about, it’s hard to remember everything that was mentioned but I know the cast was super jazzed by the fan reaction.
Anthony Rapp joined the panel late as his plane was delayed. James Frain also was there, and he wasn’t at the reception, so that was cool.
It was such a great panel, and a really fun day!
After we were able to get Anthony Rapp and James Frain on our posters as well, so I was pretty stoked. They look awesome!
It was an amazing morning and Lisa Lisa and Billy Beer had some fun by the Star Trek posters as well!
Until next time kids…
