Grease is the word…
hmmm… I’ve heard that somewhere before! There is no bigger fan of the musical than our own Ms. Pinky! She loves her some Grease!
Pinky has also been lucky enough to meet a whole bunch of the cast!
Why it… Greased Lightning!
Check out her recap below!
Hello, my lovelies. Pinky Lovejoy-Coogan here excited about discovering a new treat in Los Angeles.
Although it began in 2012, we just discovered it this weekend and it was amazing. I’m talking about Street Food Cinema, which combines classic movies we love with delicious food trucks, cool outside venues, music, and even Q&As with stars from the films!
You can find out more at their website: http://www.streetfoodcinema.com/
We had so much fun at the event – huge thanks to Heather Hope-Allison for the tickets!
Now, going to a Saturday night screening was not on our agenda when the weekend began, but after meeting Heather on Friday night, she told us how they were screening my beloved Grease and had a few members of the cast in attendance the next night. My Pink Ladies loving heart simply couldn’t stay away!
Even better?! We’d just had the opportunity of meeting Dinah Manoff (who played Marty in the film) a few weeks earlier at the Hollywood Show.
So, getting to meet Jamie Donnelly (who played Jan) and Michael Tucci (who played Sonny) at Street Food Cinema was just the icing on the cake. I’m still in shock!
Growing up, Grease was one of my all-time favorite films. I loved the music, the love story, and, especially, Olivia Newton-John. Never in a million years did I dream I’d ever meet anyone from the cast, so to have met as many as I have over the years has been a dream come true.
I mean, in addition to Dinah, Jamie, and Michael, I’ve also been lucky enough to meet
Olivia Newton-John (Sandy),
Didi Conn (Frenchie),
Jeff Conaway (Kenickie),
Eddie Deezen (Eugene),
and Lorenzo Lamas (Tom).
What made the other night even more incredible was that I realized I’d never been able to see Grease on a big screen before – it’s always been on tape or DVD at my house. I felt like I was seeing it for the first time (while still knowing every line, every song, every beat of the film). And it’s funny, I’m not sure why I never realized that Lorenzo Lamas was the guy who played Sandy’s jock love interest. How could I have missed that all this time?
The Q&A before the film was so cool – Jamie even did the “brush-a brush-a brush-a” from the film! Loved it all.
If you’re in the Los Angeles area anytime between now and October, I highly recommend checking out one of the awesome films presented by Street Food Cinema this season. Can’t wait to go again!
