Billions is the new freshman Showtime series that is tearing up the airwaves. The cast is stellar and it’s a wonderfully interesting show.
The cast and creative team including Paul Giamatti, Damian Lewis, Maggie Siff, Malin Akerman,
David Costabile, Condola Rashad, Brian Koppelman and David Levien sat down for a screening and q and a about the series.
It was an interesting talk and the comparisons between the passion of law enforcement and criminals was a great dissection of the show.
Maggie Siff is especially good in the series and she talked a lot about the power of her character.
“We have a lot of conversations and ultimately it comes down to the character loving being surrounded by all kids of sharks and the people taking these kinds of risks. And she can do some good in that context, but I think they all relish the power that they have. It’s kind of an exploration of that kind of character.” Maggie Siff said.
“The hedge fund billionaires that I met and now count as my close personal friends, all said that they were risk averse. None wanted to take big risks, they all claimed that their analysis was more through than everyone else. And when all the dots were lined up then they would make the bet. Of course the bet that they are making to a normal person would seem like an enormous risk. They maintain that they are risk averse.” Damian Lewis added.
Paul Giamatti agreed mentioning, “Attorneys have a similar sense that genuinely they can do no wrong they can only do right. There’s no ‘risk’ but they are deeply hungry and driven people.”
The conversation about power and drive was prevalent throughout the evening.
“I think what’s really great about this show is that there isn’t one character that’s straight edged or not. You get to see all sides of each character.” said Malin Akerman.
After the panel the cast headed out to the reception.
It was a bit of a mob scene and while Damian Lewis did head out, I didn’t get to meet him. I went to talk to Paul Giamatti who was surrounded for the whole evening.
He was very kind however and was happy to pose for a photo and then sign my American Splendor mini poster and my Billions poster as well.
I told Paul how much American Splendor means to me and he mentioned it was one of his all time favorite films. Such a nice man.
Then I met Maggie Siff, who is one of my all time favorites. She was so good on Sons of Anarchy and I was more then a little nervous. She was so kind and was happy to sign my Entertainment Weekly magazine and my Billions poster.
She was so nice!
Then Malin Akerman was about to head out, but she’s so nice she was happy to stop and sign a magazine and my Billions poster as well. She is one of the nicest people ever.
Then Condola Rashad was also very sweet. Signing my poster and posing for a quick photo.
I grabbed David Costabile for a quick second and he signed my poster before he headed out.
It was a really fun night and special thanks to my friend Mike who took all my photos for me. It was really nice of him! Thanks again!
Until next time kids…
