You know, one of the main things I loved about this years Comic Con was the fact that everyone in the MTF Family got the thing they most wanted.
For Billy his main thing, the thing he most wanted was to get into the How I Met Your Mother autograph signing at the FOX Booth. It’s quite literally his favorite show and I know how much he loves it.
Billy’s an awesome guy and I’m so happy he got in!
Check out his full recap below!
Welcome back to Billy Beer’s Barstool. Well, Comic Con is finally
over. I survived another year of lines, crowds, crazy costumes, Mike
the Fanboy, lack of sleep, and everything that goes along with The
Con. It was actually quite a successful trip for many of the Fanboy
family members. I think most of us got the main thing we were all
going for, and I’m sure we’ll all have our stories to tell.
This year my #1 goal was to meet the cast of How I Met Your Mother. I
have been addicted to this show for years! They were making their
first and probably only Con visit this year to promote the final
season. Now they were doing both a panel and an autograph signing. I’m
not that big on panels, it seems like a long wait to see something
that’s going to be blogged about or on You-tube in a matter of
minutes. I would rather only meet them for a few seconds, tell them
how much I love them, and walk away with an autographed poster that I
can hang up, or store with my other autographs.
So this being my #1, I decided to make an early day of it. I spent a
few hours at Mike and Susan’s hotel to take a nap (I wonder if someone
was nice enough to take a picture of me sleeping?),
and then was on my
way to hold the spots down in line. When I get there, there are still
a number of people in line, but there are also a lot of events going
on so I’m not too worried. Susan joins me a little later in line. Mike
decided he needed his (cough) beauty sleep.
Once the lines start to form, I find myself in the first row. I’m
liking my chances. When it finally does start they tell us that we can
draw for two shows. Bonus! I get lucky and get my HIMYM ticket along
with The Following.
OK, now for the moment I’ve been waiting for. I get in line to meet
the cast. Now I’ve had a little luck getting people to sign more then
one item. A couple of weeks ago, I bought a script for the show that I
was told was real at the Hollywood Show. I asked the lady in charge if
it was OK for them to sign it. She told me I could put it out, but it’s
up to them if they do want to or not.
Here comes the cast!
There’s a lot of yelling and screaming, and a million pictures being taken. Now
I’m really starting to get excited. Right before I get up to the
signing area, I tell the guard what the lady said about my script only
to have another worker tell me “NO EXTRA ITEMS! ONLY THE POSTER!”
Crap! I really wanna try, but I don’t want to get kicked out.
The two writers Chris and Chris were first in the line. I pulled out
my script, not to get it signed, but to see if it’s real.
Security was already up my ass. I told them I didn’t need it signed, I just wanted to know if it was real. They were like “Oh my gosh! Yeah it’s real!
Where did you get it? What episode was it?” I told them I got it at
the Hollywood show and it was the “Something New” episode. “That’s a
great episode!” They really looked like they wanted to sign it, but
again, didn’t want to risk it.
Jason was the first cast member in line. I had a million things I
wanted to say, but the geeking out has started. I thank him for
signing on to do the last season, and he laughs. Then I tell him I
love it when I see him riding around Hollywood on his little scooter.
He laughs at that too.
Alison is next. Geek out mode is in full effect now! I tell her how
much I love the show, and that I passed up on Tom Cruise, Sandra
Bullock and True Blood to get this signing. Then I tell her the last
time I saw her she was ready to pop at the American Reunion Premiere,
and she still came over to sign for her fans. I thanked her for being
so nice, and then she posed for a picture. FREEKING OUT!
Neil Patrick Harris is now looking at me. I shake his hand and tell
thanks for coming out, and it’s so nice to meet him. Then I just
Finally I just say, “Sorry, I’m geeking out right now”. He
smiles, and then it’s on to the next two. Josh is next, and we
exchange Hellos only to have Cobie reach over him shake my hand and
say “Hi, I’m Cobie” Well DUH! I have now gone to the point of no
return for Geeking Out.
“I know who you are! You’re my favorite person on the show! I love
you!” At this point I’ve noticed she has not let go of my hand!
Instead, she’s bring it closer to her and says “Yes, continue!”
AGHHHH! Everything after that was babbling. I tell her about the
Avengers Premiere on my birthday, and the craziness it was to get a
picture with her. She’s still holding my hand! Finally after what
seemed like hours, but was probably 30 seconds (NO JOKES MIKE!) they
were yelling at me to keep moving. Not sure if I could move, knees are
a little weak. Then just like that, it was over.
Sometimes when you go through these lines, the people just sign. You
might not even get to say a word to them (cough! Gillian Anderson).
But this cast was amazing. They smiled, interacted, and made it one of
the best moments I’ve ever had at the Con. I wish I could say it’s
happy hour somewhere, but I gotta go get in another line. They should
have beer lines here!
