Finally Meeting Jack Burton! OMG! Kurt Russell Live & In Person! I’m So Excited! One Of My Top People Ever! Autographs! Photos! Big Trouble In Little China Awesomeness!
Out of everyone I have met in the fanboy world, there are still a varied few people I have never even seen in person. Now, one of those people, I’m a huge fan of and there’s been an event here and there where he’s popped up at but alas either I was five minutes too late, or I was out of town.
So… When I saw that one of those varied people, Mr. Kurt Russell was going to do a rare Q and A I knew I had to go. Suddenly Susan and Jack also are big fans and then wanted to come as well. Off to Kurt Russell we go!
Susan got there first but we didn’t realize that there was a member line to get in. Jack is a member so he got to go in first and secure our spots. Before the Kurt Russell screening of Escape From New York and Q and A there was a Falling Skies mini event. Hey why not right.
There were a lot of Falling Skies posters and such in the front of the theater.
Susan and I got a photo together which were taken by onsite photographers before the event. A picture by a brick wall is an interesting memento but oh well….
We went in and got our seats with Jack in the front. First we watched an entire episode of Falling Skies and then there was a q and a with Noah Wylie, Moon Bloodgood and some other members of the cast.
It was an interesting q and a but security was inside and I wasn’t feeling the autograph vibe. I just had a feeling I should go outside and try to meet Kurt before he goes in.
Gregg joined us and then I told Jack and Susan my plan. Both elected to stay inside while Gregg and I headed out.
It was a madhouse. About 30 people were waiting for Kurt Russell and I knew this was going to be a disaster. I spied DVD Dave and I huddled with him and Gregg about going to the other end behind the fence which we did.
Ace was also on scene and was bopping back and forth like a ping pong ball.
Susan came outside to check and see what it looked like but didn’t bring her poster. I told her to stay but she went in to watch the rest of the movie. I just had a feeling and when my graphing instinct twitches I gotta go with it.
We took our place in the middle of the fence and then saw Moon Bloodgood and the Falling Skies cast.
Moon came over to our spot and signed. DVD Dave helped me get my mini poster signed and I got the DVD cover signed as well.
Then Noah Wyle came over to sign.
He signed the DVD cover and poster too. Thanks for the help DVD Dave!
And now we wait… Everyone who came over for Noah and Moon left. We picked our spot in the middle and waited for Kurt.
I brought my Big Trouble in Little China mini poster and also my Big Trouble in Little China video store promo Chinese food take out box as well. I also have an Overboard mini poster but that’s the last thing I’m going for. It’s a guilty pleasure and don’t mess with my guilty pleasures!
Ace has some 8×10 photos… he calls them mini posters but let’s be real. The are 8×12 photos. lol…
Kurt Russell is one of those people I really love. He’s been in so many movies I adore like Escape from New York, The Thing, Overboard, but my favorite is Big Trouble In Little China. It’s a classic and I’ve always wanted to meet Kurt. In Fact I was so devastated by missing him when Pinky got her photo with him I can’t even tell you.
We’re waiting and everyone rushes to our side. One of the security guards told people we were in the right spot and if he was going to do it that’s where he was going to go.
Suddenly, A car arrived. Kurt Russell drove himself and parked.
We all asked him to sign and he asked security if he had time.
The security said yes, and Kurt went to one end and started to sign his life away.
The man was a machine. He pretty much signed anything in front of him in the beginning and then tried to limit it to one or two items. I had my Big Trouble Mini poster and he signed it beautifully.
I told him what a huge fan I was and then asked him to signed the Take Out box as well. He looked at it and I was like, “Yeah, it was a promo when the movie came out on VHS. It’s kind of small.” He said something that I’m going to interpret as “That’s cool.” I was too stoked to meet Jack Burton in the flesh.
Kurt signed down the line to the very end.
I think everyone got at least one with the exception of a couple people. It was pretty frakkin epic.
I decided to wait until the way out to see if I could get the Overboard mini poster done. Ace went around begging for photo paper and came across the worst photo of Kurt I have ever seen in my life. It’s quite literally a giant pixel. lol…
Kurt bolted out after the q and a and said he had to go.
Still, it didn’t matter to me. I’m talking happy as a clam. I don’t know how happy clams really are, but I am. This was a big one for me! The only thing that made it sad was that Susan and Jack didn’t get him inside.
Susan has a fine fail that will be posted tomorrow.
It sucks when you’re super happy and then your friends didn’t get what they wanted. Sorry guys!
Still, I can’t help it, I’m really excited!
Until next time kids…
