With the new IT movie coming to theaters, I thought Tim Curry was the perfect Throwback Thurs. I love Tim’s work, from the aforementioned IT to Clue: The Movie, to Rocky Horror, he adds so much to every role he’s in!
Check out this Throwback below!
“It’s a Tim Curry Emergency!” so went my text to Pinky when I heard that Tim Curry was doing a play downtown Los Angeles. The play is the newest work by Monty Python alum Eric Idle, and it also stars Russell Brand, Jane Leeves, Tracey Ullman, and Eddie Izzard.
Pinky really wants Eddie Izzard and one of the other stars Billy Connolly. So, we both decided to head down to the Orpheum Theatre and brave the mean streets of Downtown Los Angeles….
9:30 p.m. – We arrived, paid eight bucks to park… grrr… and then headed over to the theatre. It was intermission and we thought it was over… Doh!
9:35 p.m. – After a quick search we realized that it appears pretty hopeless… There looks like about oh, three barricade between us and the stage door. Damn… Who’s here the pope?
9:45 p.m. – Pinky and I are hanging on a bench just chilling. She thinks that she spots Steve Guttenburg having dinner at Umami Burger which is next door to the theatre. I’m saying it’s not the Gutt. But he’s sitting outside on the balcony so I think he really wants to be noticed.
9:51 p.m. – After some back and forth banter she wants to take another look at the Gutt but he gets up and heads inside. According to the Pink “at least if he get The Gutt it won’t be a Fanboy Fail!” I hate to break it to you, but if I hauled my ass downtown Los Angeles and all I got was a photo with Steven Guttenburg it would indeed be a Fanboy Fail!
10:03 p.m. – Oh the play is letting out. We’re heading over to check out the people leaving… No one of any interest that we can tell, so we head to the uber barricaded side.
10:09 p.m. – There are a few girls waiting there so we decide to wait with them. Having a few people around is always better than having only two.
10:11 p.m. – Pinky’s spotting is in full effect, she spotted Sean Kanan walking. Ask me how and I couldn’t tell you. He was hyper nice and told us his contacts were killing him and literally chatted with us. lol… only Pinky…
10:19 p.m. – Pinky again with the spotting… Greg Louganis of all people. Like I would even be able to pick him out of a crowd. lol… And you know.. Only Pinky…
10:23 p.m. – Security is trying to tell us it would be better to wait on the other side so we can “at least see the people leave!” Even one of the girls who does not do this often said, “What will that do?” We can see them get in their cars! Wow!
10:35 p.m. – Tracey Ullman is leaving. Man she is bee lining it for her car. We didn’t even yell for her because she looked so intent on leaving.
10:41 p.m. – A few of the barricades are coming down, it must be time for the security to start heading home.
10:59 p.m. – Oh… Oh… There’s Russell Brand, he’s leaving and there’s Tim Curry talking with a group of friends.
11:01 p.m. – We yell for Russell Brand, and he’s like “but I’ve got to go, I’m tired!” And then he says “okay, I’ll come!” He walks over and is like, “I just don’t want to be boring, this is boring!” He see my Rock of Ages poster and is like, “I haven’t even seen this before.” So, I couldn’t resist saying, “Well, it’s not boring then!” lol…
I actually really like Russell Brand, I find him very amusing. He takes my silver pen and signs everyone else’s program, then he signs the barricade and then he signs my Get Him to the Greek mini poster as well. He signs it right on top of Jonah Hill’s face which normally I would hate, but considering it’s Jonah Hill I’m more than fine with his face being obscured.
Then Russell comes to Pinky and she wants a photo, and he says, “Oh but that’s so boring.” lol… Pinky’s camera didn’t work and then he was like, “Oh Boring!” Then he signs the wall… Yep the wall… and then throws my silver marker into the air as he runs back. LOL…
11:02 p.m. – Like I told Pinky, what else do you want from Russell Brand? That crazy is what you want Russell Brand to do! lol… I like him a lot actually. He’s not “boring!” lol…
11:16 p.m. – Tim Curry is holding court with a few friends still, and let’s just say, he’s having a great time with a few drinks and such. We don’t yell for him or anything but he looks over a few times at us and knows we are waiting for him.
11:24 p.m. – Pinky and I keep saying “Boring” over and over… lol… Security is being much nicer to us as well. They were the quintessential “I’ve got a badge” security, but they’ve really lightened up, and all come over one by one to see Russell’s autograph on the wall… lol…
11:36 p.m. – Tim is still holding court outside. I have been a fan of Tim Curry’s for so so so long. As most of you know Clue:The Movie is one of my top favorites of all time, so every time I see Tim on a list, or doing a reading it becomes a “Tim Curry emergency!” lol… I only have a few thing for him, a Rocky Horror mini poster, a Rocky Horror soundtrack picture disc, and a DVD sleeve I already have Susan Sarandon on. You know I would be happy to get one thing signed. honestly.
11:39 p.m. – Eddie Izzard is leaving and give us a slight wave. Doh!
11:48 p.m. – Oh it looks like Tim is leaving. We are calling for him and he waves and heads to the parking lot. Damn! (I have to say, he was having a great time with his friends so I think he really had a few drinks in him) lol…
11:49 p.m. – I run to the parking lot, well not run honestly, it was a brisk walk. Trust me I can walk faster then Tim can right now. We get to the exit and I’m holding out my poster and picture disc. The car is coming out and then slows. The driver is talking to Tim for a second and then they both figure out how to roll down the side window. LOL… Tim was so nice. He say hello, and I thank him for stopping. I handed him the poster and picture disc and he was happy to sign.
He says, “I hope these aren’t for eBay!” I was like no way, then I fanned out a little. I talked about how much I love Clue: The Movie and Rocky Horror. Tim then said, “Thank you so much for waiting so long.” lol… I was like uh, of course! lol… He then said, “God Bless” and I thanked him again.
So nice! I was hyper excited! And especially since it looked like a Fanboy Fail when we got here! Sorry for the lack of pics, it really wasn’t all that possible. Ah well…
Until next time kids!
