I know Scotty is going to be jealous of this one! Father of the Bride has been a staple in my house forever! I loved it since the first time I saw the film at the dollar show back in Michigan when I was four apples high. To be honest, the only person I’ve met from the cast is Martin Short, everyone else has eluded me.
Well, Pinky certainly can’t say that! While braving the cold Sundance weather she got to meet the groom himself Mr. George Newbern! I know his name may not be household chatter worthy, but for us collectors seeing someone rare like this is super exciting!

Hello, my lovelies. Pinky Lovejoy here still thawing out from the freezing cold that was Sundance. After participating in the past twelve festivals, you’d think I’d be a little more used to the freezing cold, but alas, this California girl will never enjoy being bundled up and chilly. Still, I do appreciate the random sightings that can be found in the snow-capped mountains of Park City. Several years ago, my favorite random celebrity to be found was Judd Nelson – now THAT made my entire year. I still smile when I think about it.
This time, I think the most obscure person we found was George Newbern who played the groom in the “Father of the Bride” movie.
George just happened to be walking by the shop we were sitting by the other night and I jumped at the chance to try and get a picture with him. Who wouldn’t? I loved that movie so much – it’s still a guilty of pleasure of mine.
In fact, it’s hard to believe this is the first member of the cast I’ve ever met (I need to get to work!).
George seemed genuinely surprised that we recognized him, but he was still very cordial. I, of course, was far more excited than I should have been – as you can see by the crazed expression on my face. But how often do you get to see the groom from such a fun film? Never, I tell you. Never! J
