Oh, the talk show wars… I really think that’s what they are sometimes. Personally, I like Jay Leno. I know, I know everyone has their own opinion, but seriously… Every time I have ever seen Jay, he’s been over the top nice. Always, taking time to meet fans and not just meet them but being super cool. I remember him always going, “Okay everyone, come meet Santa!” As everyone came over to greet him.
Now, Ms. Pinky has her own ideas and has met pretty much all of the current late night talk show crop!
Check out her Manic Monday recap about meeting Jay Leno and the rest of the hosts below!
Hello, my lovelies. Pinky Lovejoy here thinking about the recent announcement of Jay Leno’s retirement next year and how Jimmy Fallon will be taking over for him. Now of course I have my own opinion about this, but first I thought I’d share about the few times I’ve had the pleasure of meeting Jay Leno.
The first time I remember seeing Jay on TV was when he would guest star on Johnny Carson’s The Tonight Show. Jay was a hilarious guest and I enjoyed watching his stand-up routine. I was lucky enough to meet Jay a few years ago when he was filming his “Jaywalking” bit on Hollywood Blvd.
Between each take, Jay’s people would bring over a few fans at a time to get pictures with Jay, which I thought was super cool. He could’ve done anything on his breaks, but he chose to hang out with the surrounding fans. I was extremely impressed. Since that time I’ve visited The Tonight Show on several occasions and am always happy to see Jay wave to the fans outside as he leaves. The other day I was there and was able to get a picture with him again as he left (although Billy Beer’s picture is far more epic than mine – for some reason Jay flashed some “gang type signs” for Billy – love it!).
While I remain impressed with how kind and nice Jay is, I have to admit I’m not a huge fan of his hosting. Never have been. I find him kind of boring and safe. I much prefer the witty antics of David Letterman, Conan O’Brien, or Jimmy Kimmel. Plus, I really think Conan got screwed last year when Jay retired before – which caused a chain reaction of George Lopez losing his show and Conan now being on TBS.
Sure, he’s still funny, but who thinks to go to TBS? Back in the day, I remember talk shows being something to really talk about – especially Arsenio’s “Dog Pound.” Arsenio was just the coolest thing around!
So, apparently Jimmy Fallon has been tapped to replace Jay Leno on The Tonight Show, which also means the show will be moving back to New York. Well, that just sucks all over. I liked Jimmy Fallon on SNL, but I don’t love his show. Maybe he’ll step up and impress me, but for now I remain skeptical.
Seems like many people could have done a better job – Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert, Conan O’Brien. But, maybe that’s just my opinion. What do I know?
Over the years I’ve met several of my fave talk show hosts. I still hope to meet Craig Ferguson and David Letterman, but I’m thrilled with the pics I’ve gotten so far.
