Spirit Awards 2015! Ethan Hawke! J.K. Simmons! Marion Cotillard! Matt Bomer! Jessica Chastain! And More!
The annual Spirit Awards. A long and supposedly fun day. I always wonder sometimes, is it all worth it. I still enjoy this hobby, however… There are days. With everything one has to go through for a spot, pulling stuff and trying to figure out who will show up, I sit back and wonder if the madness is all worth it.
Still, it’s always fun to be able to hang with friends, even with a touch of drama. I know I say this, but when I reflect back on events… I talk about the celebrity encounters and the things that I get signed, however it’s the hours waiting with friends that’s the thing that really sticks out in my mind once an event is over.
It’s something I appreciate.
Alright enough of that crap. I had to be up early for this day, and there’s sand. I’m not a fan of either.
Once I arrived I got to see Billy and Scotty. We all hung out and honestly, it was a beautiful day. It’s just a long long day. And honestly, no one knows where to stand, there’s not that one place. Because honestly, who knows where people will go.
People start to arrive and it’s an endless stream of randoms, guests, people just going to the show, Uber cars. Yeah, it’s more than a little slow.
Zsa Zsa Gabor’s husband is here… The big time celebrities you know…
And then the first arrival. It’s Jessica Chastain. God bless her, she’s so nice. Jessica goes down the entire line of people, she signs one each and is as sweet as ever. I have a Crimson Peak mini poster. It’s coming out this summer and looks amazing. Jessica’s publicist is shocked I have it already and I told them both how much I’m looking forward to the movie.
Olivia Munn arrives next and she’s nice enough to come over and sign her “O” for people.
Stana Katic arrives and heads down the end to the opposite end of the line. I didn’t have anything for her anyway, even though I enjoy Castle.
Of course for every person who signs, there are several who run on in. It’s hard to remember, but a majority of the people didn’t come over this year.
Michael Keaton signed like 5 and then ran off to complain about being Batman for the next five years.
Jenny Slate just arrived and ran over to sign for a bit.
Here’s a shock it’s Desperate Housewives star Marcia Cross. I love her Bree was always my favorite Housewife. Marcia is super nice and comes over to take some photos with fans. I did get a quick selfie, I’m waiting for Scotty to send it on over.
Birdman director Alejandro González Iñárritu is here now and he is nice enough to come on over.
Rene Russo has arrived and is nice enough to run over and sign a few.
Ethan Hawke follows suit and comes on over. He gets more than a bit flustered but I’m lucky enough to get him to sign a Flaunt magazine for me.
Jena Malone has just arrived. She’s nice as usual and runs on over to greet people.
Snatch star Benicio Del Toro is here now and he comes on over. He’s always pretty nice and today is no exception. Benicio Del Toro signed down the line and I was able to get him to sign a Usual Suspects mini poster.
David Oyelowo is here now, the star of Selma is very cordial and signs for pretty much everyone who wanted him to.
Diego Luna is here and runs on over to sign. He signed my Y Tu Mamá También promo screener DVD.
Oprah has arrived, and waves and goes on in. Eric Roberts said that he was late and had to run inside.
Julianne Moore is here and she comes over to sign but really far down the line. She makes it down about a barricades length. Not even close to us.
The show is about to start as Matt Bomer arrives. He’s very cool and comes over and signs my White Collar mini poster as well as my Magic Mike postcard set.
Then Common arrives and runs over. Super nice guy.
The show is starting and we have a minute to reorganize. Joaquin Phoenix has arrived and he runs inside without coming over.
Then Ewan McGregor pulls on up riding his motorcycle. Like a superhero. Such a cool guy.
He takes off his helmet and runs on over. Ewan McGregor literally signs from one end of the line down to the other. Billy helped me get a Moulin Rouge poster signed but I think I’m going to have to get it redone as he signed it right in the black area.
I did get Ewan to sign my Beginners mini poster, which he finishes.
Then Marion Cotillard arrives and is lovely as usual. She comes on over and signs as much as she can before she has to go inside. I had her sign a Blackbook magazine.
Eric Roberts is leaving now and he’s a bit… well… He had a good time. LOL. He’s very nice and signed for anyone who asked.
Gillian Jacobs signed a couple on the way out.
Kristen Wiig signed a few on the way in, Cate Blanchett signed about five on the way in. Kerry Washington about the same.
Jared Leto ran on in, on the way out he dry humped the air and ran inside.
Alfred Molina ignored everyone.
Miles Teller came over signed, skipped people, signed. He was kind of odd actually.
J.K. Simmons came on over and was super nice. Signing for a whole chunk of the barricade and I got him on my Whiplash mini poster.
Matt Bomer came on over again and Billy was ready with his shirtless Magic Mike photo.
Matt signed an OUT magazine for me.
The one nice thing this year was that literally all the people around me, we all helped each other out, a DVD cover signed here, a magazine there, a mini poster, etc… It was really cool to see everyone working together and it made the day so much more fun.
Rinko Kikuchi was leaving and we all called and called for her. She was in Pacific Rim with Charlie Hunnam. Super cool. Thanks to everyone I got two mini posters and a Blu-ray cover signed.
Lorelei Linklater was walking out and Scotty got her to sign his Boyhood poster and I did as well.
We tried to get Patricia Arquette but nadda.
Scarlett Johansson came over and was heading right to us and then decided to go further down the line. Doh!
She signed maybe 10 things ish.
So, overall was it worth it?
I dunno. Did I have fun? To be honest, I kind of did. Since everyone really helped each other out, it made the day fun. Not that what I got signed was all that great, but it was a few things, so overall, I think I’m pretty happy.
There were tons more people who didn’t do it. But I knew this year the list was going to be tough.
until next time kids…
