He walked up to me and asked me if I wanted to dance… He looked kinda nice and so I said I might take a chance…
Okay, so pretty much everyone knows… Adventures in Babysitting is one of my favorite movies. Let’s be honest, it’s amazing. The comedy, the action, the characters, it all just works, in a wonderful cotton candy confection of goodness.
Recently, there was a special screening and q and a for Adventures in Babysitting with star and MTF family member Keith Coogan and Maia Brewton who played Sara in the movie and was also in Parker Lewis
Watching the film on the big screen was pretty awesome I have to say and laughing along with the audience was really amazing.
After the screening there was a panel with Keith and Maia along with writer David Simkins.
“This was a spec script I wrote with I was 27 and the script was given to a friend which went to a friend and Chris Columbus came on board and he told me it needed to be set in Chicago and explore the Chicago blues scene.” Said David Simkins. “That was not in the original script.”
“I took the traditional Hollywood route to getting the film. There was some screen tests.” Said Maia Brewton.
“I got to screen test with Phoebe Cates, Valerie Bertinelli and Elisabeth Shue. Somehow my Mom said, see if she wants to grab lunch, so I got to have lunch with Phoebe Cates at Sizzler.” Laughed Keith Coogan. “The whole cast… We had so many great supporting players in there.”
Talk turned to shooting the film and it was shot in Chicago and Toronto. “There were two weeks of rehearsal, which was great. I don’t think I’ve had that on any other film.” Said Keith Coogan.
“I had a Canadian double that would take over at midnight because of SAG rules. Apparently in Canada there are no rules.” Chuckled Maia. “I went through so many hats and the prop guy would just make them right there.”
After the panel, Keith, Maia and David were super nice and hung out with everyone.
I have quite the Adventures in Babysitting collection, a mobile, counter stand, original video store poster, 12×18… Yeah, I’m cray. I know it.
Maia was very sweet and indulged me in my madness, she did photos and we talked a bit. So sweet of her.
David Simkins was also nice enough to sign my collection of randomness, lol. I think the counter stand is my favorite.
Keith is always nice and he had a nice assortment of merch available so if you ever see a con where Keith is, make sure and stop by and say hi!
It was a really amazing night!
Until next time kids…
