This weekend I was treated to a fun FYC q and a with the cast of the hilarious Silicon Valley.
One of the funniest shows on TV and I have to add one of the most well written as well.
At the panel and q and a were:
Mike Judge, showrunner/co-creator/executive producer/writer/director
Alec Berg, showrunner/executive producer/writer/director
Thomas Middleditch, Richard
T.J. Miller, Erlich
Zach Woods, Jared
Josh Brener, Big Head
Suzanne Cryer, Laurie
Stephen Tobolowsky, Jack Barker
After the screening the panel started and right away the jokes were flying. The cast really enjoy each other and you can tell right away.
Talk turned to the fact that the guys on the series are always the underdog even though they are geniuses.
“Is Erlich a genius?” Asks T.J. Miller, “It’s interesting because I do think he’s good at his job, but as you can see, I don’t know what his job is. But all of us know someone like him in Hollywood and in our lives. In this season especially, they kind of expose that Erlich is kind of this con man. What he’s a genius at is selling himself.”
“I think people enjoy seeing Erlich as being a nightmare in Richard’s favor.” added Alec Berg.
“there’s a sequence, I forget what episode where everyone has to hack for their lives and Erlich is like, alright… and he gets into the coding.” said Thomas Middleditch.
“At the start of this season, I had to smoke a little of Erlich’s bog and it’s like smoking plexiglass.” laughed Zach Woods.
The guys had a lot of fun on the panel and the jokes were everywhere.
The moderator compared Jared to Jesus at one point because he would take a bullet for his friends.
“That’s awfully nice but so mean to Jesus.” Zach Woods exclaimed, “In his sleep, it’s like people who can’t express things in their waking life, I don’t think anger will ever find an outlet in real life.”
“Zach does something in the writing and he just reveals little snippets of his backstory.” T.J. Miller laughed, “multiple foster homes, I haven’t slept in a box for years…”
“A lot of it comes out in the fifth episode actually. We’ll see his dark past in the fifth episode.” Said Mike Judge.
After the panel the cast was so nice and hung out with everyone for quite some time.
Ace went with me and we had Mike Judge sign our Silicon Valley posters and then headed to the reception. My friend Mike was nice enough to get pics for me again.
It was a real treat and the food at the reception was great!
Until next time kids…
