Scotty loves him some females of the 1990’s but none more so than “Criminal” singer Fiona Apple! He’s been waiting for this night for quite some time! Fiona Apple had a concert at the Greek Theater in support of her new album “The Idler Wheel Is Wiser Than the Driver of the Screw and Whipping Cords Will Serve You More Than Ropes Will Ever Do” and in Scotty’s own words… “Amazing!”
Plus, after a lengthy wait he got to meet the waifish singer as well!
Check out his full report after the jump!!
The Greek Theater – Los Angeles, CA
September 14, 2012
I just returned from an AMAZING Friday night under the stars. I made my way to see the amazing Fiona Apple at the Greek Theater in Los Angeles. It has been 7 years since we have had new material from Fiona. Her new album “The Idler Wheel Is Wiser Than the Driver of the Screw and Whipping Cords Will Serve You More Than Ropes Will Ever Do,” was well worth the wait. She premiered her new material at SXSW in Austin, Texas earlier this year. I was jealous of everyone at the festival who had the chance to hear the material first. Thank goodness for fans and Youtube!
Fiona toured during the summer of 2012 and I unfortunately was unable to procure a ticket to her show at the Palladium. So, when I saw that she was going to be performing another set at the Greek, I was not going to miss it! I got a ticket in the orchestra section, and could not wait for the show.
Since parking is a nightmare at the Greek Theater in Griffith Park, I made my way over after work. I found parking, went and got a soda, and walked up to the theater. The gates opened at 6 p.m. I walked in and explored the surroundings and found the t-shirt stand. They had limited edition tour posters, of which only 50 were sold per night. I was going to ask for one and saw that 10 of those posters were signed! As I asked for one, and made the purchase, the last two were sold within seconds. I was happy to get one!
I made the way to my seat and waited for Fiona to take the stage. When the lights
finally went down, Fiona exploded onto the stage whipping a scarf around as the music for “Fast As You Can” began. Her voice was as deep and beautiful as ever.
Fiona played a GREAT set that included: “Shadow Boxer” and “Sleep To Dream” from her album “Tidal;” “On the Bound,” “Paper Bag,” “I Know,” and my favorite Fiona song “Get Gone” from her sophomore album “When the Pawn…;” “Extraordinary Machine,” and “Not About Love” from “Extraordinary Machine;” and my favorites “Every Single Night,” “Anything We Want,” and “Periphery” from the new album. Fiona gave her all on stage and made this fan so happy. I had a smile on my face the entire show.
After exiting the theater, I waited to see if there was an opportunity to get a signature from Fiona. Five other fans and I waited a long time and finally saw Fiona come off the tour bus to greet someone. We waited patiently, and Fiona kindly came over to greet us. I could not believe that she was coming over. I was so excited.
She signed my Rolling Stone magazine and took a picture with me. Fiona was amazing. It did not take very long for Fiona to greet and make her hardcore fans happy. Other musicians need to take a lesson from Fiona.
Thank you Fiona for a terrific evening! Check out the rest of the photos below!!
