While we’ve had a couple different in person encounters with Mr. Pierce Brosnan lately, you just never know how someone will be currently. Now, Some of the reports were good, some were bad… He is most decidedly hit and miss.
Karalee the newest member of the Mike The Fanboy Family was out and about and met the Mars Attacks star. If I was rested enough and didn’t just come in from a red eye flight I probably would have tried. With him you just don’t know.
I’m very happy to report this was a Happy Theo day!
Check out Karalee’s report after the jump!
I’ll cut right to the chase: I recently had my first Pierce Brosnan star sighting and it was great! Yeah, victory!
Now here’s where I’d like to take a moment and share some background so you can understand why this “victory” means so much to me.
When I was 17 and a few weeks away from entering my freshmen year at Michigan State University, I drove up to campus, hoping to find a part-time job. My resume boasted several career highlights, including movie theater tickets and concessions, restaurant hostess and trap shoot scorekeeper (yes, you read that right…clay pigeons and all). I was just hoping to find a job that didn’t require me to serve food in the cafeteria.
While roaming through the MSU Student Union, looking at job boards, I somehow ended up in the manager’s office. A woman poked her head out from the rear cubicle and asked if she could help me. Her name was Laurena. I apologized and explained my job search. She invited me to sit down and we chatted. After talking for a short while, she said she’s actually looking for a student receptionist and would I be interested. Long story short
(“Too late!”…that’s a “Clue” reference, BTW…lol),
(Editor’s Note: Clue reference’s are always welcomed at MTF! M-)
I walked out with a great student job and what would be the start of a lovely friendship. Laurena was so great to me and I loved hearing her crack jokes, confide the occasional office gossip, and simply be a bright spot in my college experience.
Since I started my stargazing adventures a few months ago, Laurena’s let me know from time to time that her favorite actor is Pierce “Bond…James Bond” Brosnan. When I learned he was doing a talk show appearance, I decided to try and snag an autographed picture for her.
4 p.m.: I arrive and there are less than 10 people lined up. It’s a calm group, which is nice, though I know it could get bigger/worse as time goes on. And there are no barricades set up (one of Sir Mike’s biggest pet peeves).
The crowd starts to grow, but again, it remains calm.
4:50 p.m.: A car finally pulls up. It’s the other night’s guest, Greta Gerwig. I’m not familiar with her, and given the few people who called her name, I don’t think many others are either. It’s clear we’re all here for “Remington Steele.”
5:15 p.m.: An SUV rolls up; it’s gotta be Pierce…and it is! He gets out, clad in a white tee and black jacket. We call for him, and he looks up, but heads straight inside.
5:20 p.m.: Security hauls the barricades over. This brings me hope.
It’s my first time being the lone MTF family member at an event. Thankfully, there are some familiar friendly faces in attendance and we pass the time, keeping hope Pierce will come over when he exits.
6:45 p.m.: It’s “shaken, not stirred” time!
Pierce exits, we call for him and he comes right over.
The crowd is now up to about 30 to 40 people and each person seems to have at least one, if not more, thing for him to autograph. I’ve got my picture for Laurena, and I’m hoping he’ll sign down the line (or at least to me, lol) as I’m lucky No. 7 along the barricade.
I lean over to see what he’s doing and I’m thrilled to see he’s signing pretty much everything each person has — and taking photos.
One guy even had a toy gun — and Pierce signed it! Truth be told, I wasn’t thrilled when I saw the gun and many of us were hoping it wouldn’t scare Pierce or freak him out. Security may have been given the heads-up on the prop, but still…these days, you can’t be too cautious. But it all worked out and I’m glad the fan got what he wanted.
Now it’s my turn. I hold out my picture for Laurena and as he signs,
I thank him for coming over and ask him if I can get a quick photo with him. He says “Of course,” and then looks for my friend holding my camera.
I get my photo op and he moves on to the next person…
and then the next person…
and then the next…
Pierce continued down the entire row of fans, signing, posing and briefly chatting.
The wait was worth it and I think everyone left pleased. I walked away with a gift for someone truly special to me and a great celebrity-encounter memory that I will never forget.
Thanks for letting me share…catch ya on the flip side!
