The Amazing Spider-Man Movie Premiere Report! AKA The Day Mike Went To A Premiere And Got Nothing! Grumble! Andrew Garfield! Emma Stone! and Me Getting Nadda! Doh!
I wasn’t going to head out for this one, I have to tell you I have been dreading The Amazing Spider-Man movie premiere for weeks. Do I go, do I stay home? Ugh… The Other Mike called me and was like, “Come!” I was like, no.. Then I relented. Ugh… So, here I am….
I’m walking over with my Amazing Spider-Man poster in tow. I’m kind of feeling like I should have stayed home… I have to tell you there must be 500 people all over on the carpet, across the street, I swear they are hanging off balconies… Damn…
6:11 p.m. – I just arrived. I’m second row behind The Other Mike and Scotty. They both got here at the crack of dawn, I was like, oh hell… No way. Sigh…
6:23 p.m. – I swear there are people everywhere… Like a truckload of people were dropped off here in Westwood. It’s like they loaded the population of Rhode Island into a bus a dropped them off here!
6:29 p.m. – There’s a man dressed like Spider-Man on the carpet. He’s balancing on top of the carpet. It’s actually kind of cool.
6:38 p.m. – Oh… Is that a drop off? Oh shit, Andrea Garfield is walking over and signing and signing on this side of the street.
The Other Mike ran down and got him to sign a photo. I waited with Scotty to hold our spots.
6:41 p.m. – Andrew sees to be taking his time… Scotty has a W magazine insert for him. I’m just going to go in-between Scotty and The Other Mike.
6:43 p.m. – I have my poster out front and center. Andrew comes by and his people smash my poster into the barricade. I’m like what the hell…
6:44 p.m. – I ran down down to the other side to try and get Andrew at the end… What did I get? The shaft. Dammit! What the hell….
6:46 p.m. – Rhys Ifans is here… People are yelling for him…. He’s heading to the other side. I’m not in a different spot and I don’t even get close. Sigh… Man oh man…
6:53 p.m. – Wow, I’m shocked that Emma Stone isn’t here yet… Oh wait! There she is!
I have a good spot… Well good enough considering… Emma Stone is signing up a storm. I’m waiting, I have a couple magazines for her and my poster.
6:59 p.m. – Okay, Emma is really close to me now and… She stops signing… Seriously… Lord…
Well, thank God I didn’t put a lot of time into this one. Still a tad ticked I didn’t get anything at this premiere. Nothing, Nadda… Rarely will I walk away with nothing. Grumble… Ah well, there will be another day… Double grumble…

I so badly wanted to go to this cause I LOVE Emma Stone, but figured it would be a madhouse. Glad I stayed home.
Mike,
Sorry you didn’t get anything! But hey, like you said, at least you didn’t get there at the crack of dawn, like the rest of us.
Mike, I’m starting to see another “trend” and that it the celebs only signing for the front row. Aren’t you noticing that celebs from the past three or four premiers are nown doing this? If you’re in the second row security will automaticaly push your stuff out of the way. Bad call because now there’s just going to be more pushing and shoving at the premiere’s. TOTALLY SUCKS!
you know what John, i 100% agree with you. It seems that most premieres they have only been signing in the front row. I actually think that’s to the advantage to the people who have been their the longest, but, we also have cases where the celeb skips sections, or signs erratically, like Blake Lively recently. Anyways, it was still a fun premiere as i got Rhys, who i was VERY excited to see/get.
i thought about going too just to see emma stone and get a pic with her but i knew it would be a madhouse and i talked to people the day before and said people started lining up already and i talked to someone who went early and they said it was packed. Plus i would of taken the bus there and due to no parking and that would of been a drag and prob an hour ride in traffic. And i agree about celebs only signing for the front row, which forces the people in the back to reach over and push and put their stuff in front of you. Its all a gamble even if you are in the front row as some celebs skips some sections. So thats why i would rather not be there and wait all day in the hot sun for a chance that a celeb will not sign let alone take a picture, i rather do pictures than autographs. For the TED premiere i wanted to take a pic with mila kunis but she only signed and flew down the line and didn’t go all the way to end. Plus it kinda started late. Mark walhberg and Seth MacFarlane only signed for the beginning of the barricade and didn’t even go down, and the beginning of the line was all staked out by autograph dealers. Someone i talked to, maybe it was the security that worked the event said mark walhberg stopped signing cause people were pushing the barricade. I think small events like after kimmel in the alley is easier since there are less people but it still gets pushy.
Steve 100% agree with you in what you said. Premiere’s are just getting too hard to mess with anymore. I remember the “old” days when you could show up an hour or two before the start and you can still get a good spot. Now you get these collectors who insist on getting there at the crack of dawn and then save spots for 10 people. Don’t people have “lives” anymore? I really wish it were first come first serve. I used to mess with a lot of premieres but now I only do premieres comic book, animation related or ones that have a lot a “A” listers like the most recent Savages premiere. But Steve Kimmel can be just as bad depending on who the guest is.
Yeah you should only go to premieres with A listers or unless you really want to meet a certain celebrity should always go with no expectations. Yeah depending on the guest kimmel could be bad. I’ve watched videos and read stories on here about kimmel. Like about the katy perry one and how someone waited there all day starting at 11:30 and was in a prime spot and got nothing cause she skipped that section due to all the pushing. And she came out around almost 9 so thats like 10 hours just waiting for nothing. People who came later and didn’t wait as long got pictures and/or autographs. Then there’s other times like last week when it was matt leblanc and selma blair, i read on here that it was only 10-15 people so that wasn’t bad at it all and even after the videos on youtube it wasn’t a madhouse so everything for the most part was calm and they signed and took pics without a problem. Then you have stars who just snub everyone completely at kimmel that i read on here like leslie bibb, scarlett johosson, and lately mila kunis, who just have their cars pull up next to the door and leave. Though some dealers or photographers say mila is snubbing a lot not cause of the stalker thing. But yeah its all a risk even kimmel, waiting all day to get nothing. Though lots of celebrities always seem to be in a rush or they body guards are rushing them or they seem overwhelmed by all the people and dealers. But just depends on the person and day. Like i heard Robert Pattinson signed for everyone at kimmel one time and it was like 400 people and he just went down the line, i think the way they set that up was better cause they had a barricade line down the alley as opposed to just block everyone behind a few barricades and does like 5 rows deep. There’s a video on youtube where this guy makes portrait of celebrities and goes to events and premieres to get them signed so he did one of kristen stewart and ran all over town to all her appearances that da yto get it signed from early morning to night and got nothing, check it out here…..
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PE9UPlCcZNA&feature=plcp
and in this video the guy was right there and julia roberts skips him….
and john, i think for these collectors and dealers, these are their full time jobs. I’ve talked to some of them and they run around all day in hollywood with their bag full of glossy pics for the stars to sign and they want like 10 things to be signed, and of course they are very aggressive and pushy which ruins it for everyone else. And at premieres they camp out at the crack of dawn like you said and even after getting some things signed they want more so they will wait until after the stars come out from the movie to get more stuff signed so they can sell it on ebay. But unless people are buying their stuff they got to have other means to be making a living. I guess everyone knows about that dealer red bull since he’s known around hollywood and someone said he was banned from the kimmel alley for a year. Funny seeing him get beat up in front of the pantages trying to get priscilla presley. I think he might be faking his leg injury with that cast. But yeah still glad i saved my time by not going to amazing spider man premiere it was a madhouse and if you watch videos of how everyone bombarded her with all this stuff to sign it was crazy. Some girl had her camera ready to take a pic but emma said she was sorry that she couldn’t then after the movie when it wasnt too many people some guy had his camera ready and was ready to pose with his camera but emma said i’m only signing if thats ok.
Mike, that really sucks, but as you point out “at least you didn’t waste all day.” Still, I think Steve and John are making some valid points. People are definitely arriving earlier than they had been and even the last few events I attended I overheard people “camping out for some premieres” with B-listers. What the hell is wrong with people????
B listers? wow, just be fans or just dealers trying to make a buck. I heard people or mainly girls were camping out in westwood for the spiderman premiere to see andy Garfield but someone else said westwood doesn’t let you camp out anymore. Like kimmel even waiting after jay leno is a risk. Some celebs come out to sign and some drive off. I heard katy Perry after leno came out and signed and posed for pics and everyone was in a line and with with chaos like kimmel. I went to see if i get mila kunis last week after leno but nope she just drove off. Of course it didn’t help that she was on the same day as justin bieber so all these girls were waiting. Before he came out his manager came and said for everyone to be calm and something good might happen. So what happened was justin just pulled up in his shuttle van and did a short acoustic song and drove off and didn’t sign or anything. Speaking of not having a life after he dove off little girls got in their cars that their mom had warmed up and waiting and followed bieber’s car along with other people like paparazzi and autograph dealers/collectors. We live in a celeb crazy age.
I REALLY MISS THE GOOD OLD DAYS! It was never like “this” 5 years ago.
Makig a “living” is one thing BUT it shouldn’t hurt the real fans.
