I love hearing from the Scarlet Starlet! YAY! She just sent in this awesome recap of Collectormania from across the pond and she had a special MTF guest star… The Lovely Erica who made the trip overseas!
It sounds like a great lineup a guests and I wish we had one here in the states. It seems very much like the Hollywood Show in that you can get photo ops with stars and line up to meet people etc… And what an awesome line up!
Check out Scarlet’s full recap after the jump!
What a crazy time this was! It’s a time of the year I always look forward to – a convention weekend! And this one was extra special, because not only did I have some friends coming with me (this fangirl often flies solo), but I also had a chance to meet The Lovely Erica! Yes, your very own US correspondent had crossed the pond, and we got the chance to meet at the convention!
A lack of organization meant I hadn’t bought myself any tickets in advance, so arriving at Milton Keynes stadium with J and D in tow we joined the huge line for entrance. As the line was so immense I wandered up to the front just to check we were in the correct one. As it turns out, J and D were waiting in the Karen Gillian line, which was fine, as J wanted tickets to see her, so I joined the other.
When the doors opened we made it in quickly and I did a circuit of the concourse picking up virtual queue tickets for everyone that I wanted to meet, then joined the non-virtual queue to buy my photo shoot tickets.
The next hour is quite boring, so I’ll skip over it, and safe to say an hour later I had all my tickets, and The Lovely Erica had just arrived! I can I get a fangirl WOOT! :0)
So first up, we all 4 go together to meet Brian Blessed – he was actually on my ‘maybe’ list; I was trying to decide whether to meet him or get an autograph from Jason Momoa – a fangirl’s finances can only stretch so far! But D is keen to meet him, and Erica wants to get his autograph for a friend, so we all queue together.
Now, it’s a pretty busy concourse – perhaps I should take this moment to clarify that its actually the concourse around a football stadium. We’re in the open-air, and there are a LOT of people walking back and forth, so there is a lot of noise.. but you can hear Brian Blessed’s voice booming out over them all! Brian is very popular, and there’s a long queue for him. We got accosted by Stormtroopers in the queue, who tried to pinch my ticket – outrageousness! “This is not the ticket you are looking for…”
D was first to meet him, and, upon discovering that D is blind, Brian Blessed described himself, taking care to ensure that D understood that he was, in fact, very sexy! We have it on tape – its so awesome!
At my turn, I asked him if he had a favorite Blackadder episode – probably the Archbishop one, he said, as he also got to confer archbishopdom on Rowan Atkinson’s Blackadder.
He gave me a lovely autograph, and I love his inscription! – so glad that I did meet him!
The next guests we’d like to meet together are the former Formula 1 racing drivers – I’m a new and hyper enthusiastic follower of F1 (part of a new girl-talk F1 Twitter feed – @F1floozies – check us out!) and none other than Sir Stirling Moss is present! D nips off with J to meet driver John Watson first, and then we’re in the queue! Sir Stirling Moss is a total gentleman, lovely and chatty – his money for the 2012 season was on Sebastian Vettel, on account of the Red Bull developer Adrian Newey (who I’m sure must be some kind of F1 car-designing-deity).
Well, time has told (sorry, something of a delay has elapsed since the event), I was rooting for the awesome Fernando Alonso, but Vettel did it to take his third world championship in a row. (/end F1 aside)
Then its time for my first photo shoot – with the lovely Sean Astin; I’m so excited to see him; he was the star of my fave childhood film, ‘The Goonies’ (c’mon, who didn’t love The Goonies?!?!) and IMHO, a pivotal character of Lord of the Rings. The photo shoots are very quick, not much time for more than a ‘hi’ *pose, click* ‘thanks bye’, but I’m good with that, I’m going to meet him for an autograph later and there will be more time for a bit of a chat then.
Time for a bit time to chill out and have lunch – it’s a shame that we have to drag Erica to McDonalds rather than take her for authentic English cuisine (curry? fish and chips?), but frankly the fast food outlets are really the only ones in the neighborhood.
After refueling, its back inside and time to split up! I go first for my Jason Momoa photo shoot – he is quite lovely! Having trouble with his knee after damaging it playing football with the other guests over lunch apparently, despite wincing with pain, he still dropped to one knee to take a photo with a lady in a wheelchair before me – see, very lovely! I do like my photo with him – I met Khal Drogo!!!! I reckon I’d make a great Khaleesi! :0)
Next up is a photo shoot with Brandon Routh. Sadly, I end up in a rather disastrous situation whereby I missed my it on account of a miscommunication and unfortunate circumstances – eek! However, the organizers manage to sort a second slot for me, which is frankly fantastic, a couple of hours later!
So in the meantime, I’m off to meet Sean Astin! He is super nice – and called me ‘Sweetie’! I told him I had been a fan for many moons (“what a lovely phrase” he replied) “since The Goonies” I said – “wow, that must mean I’m really old!” he replied. “Nonsense – you look great!” I assured him. “So do you!” he replied. Woot! Ego boost from the epic Mr Astin, one of my childhood heroes; awesomeness!
The energy is ebbing from the new conventioneers, and D and J are getting ready to leave. Erica is shortly leaving too, so I manage to find her again to say goodbye. It was fab to meet you Erica, and great fun hanging out with you!
Then I’m back in to keep my appointment for my Brandon Routh photo shoot. There are two of us, which makes me feel slightly less bad. I apologize for the need for a reshoot, and he says “No problem – we’ve got make sure we get everyone”. Proper legend. Fact.
Then that’s it, time to head home – til the next one!
